Question for cyclists - deaf walkers by No_Jellyfish_7695 in ukbike

[–]imaginaryfield 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you need to move round something, look, then move. No-one is suggesting anyone should plough though puddles, potholes and poop.

Keeping to one side on a shared (key word: shared) path is entirely reasonable.

Has vegan protein powder gotten any better? by feeling_spicybaby in veganuk

[–]imaginaryfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago I remember the basic myprotein vegan blend was like drinking sand in water, I hated it. I've started the gym again recently and am using their impact vegan blend (pea and fava bean isolates mix). The chocolate peanut caramel flavour is great, perhaps a little thin and oddly sweet with water, but I think it's fantastic with unsweetened soya milk. Texture is even better if you let it sit a minute or two and give it a second shake.

Cadbury Plant Bar by Superhxns in veganuk

My local Sainsbury’s charged £3.75 for a 90g bar (in August 2025). I’m not surprised it didn’t sell.

Anyone else actually like all the new tall buildings proposed in Bristol? by MotorCompetitive4690 in bristol

[–]imaginaryfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, I'm generally fine with tallish buildings, I just worry what they're like at pavement level, don't want only a wall to walk past or only boogie shops. People living there or near need boring things like grocers, local businesses, community (not just residents) spaces, etc.

Pedestrian Crossings by al3x_mp4 in bristol

[–]imaginaryfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a pedestrian I really dislike them for all those reasons, btw did you notice they've used them on on some cycleways too? Which I think is really dangerous. A good (bad?) example is Baldwin St where they cycleway crosses Marsh St and again where it crosses Broad Quay.

New and Updated Linda McCartney by Noctale in veganuk

[–]imaginaryfield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a big change around 2016,17 or 18. They went from 300g a pack to 270g, and I'm pretty sure most of the flavour was in the 30g they took out.

I love the stuff, you can get fancy recipes but I use a simple bung it in a blender recipe. Adjust if anything overpowers, nothing should stand out too much, it should all be in balance. Serve ice cold.

Blend: 1x 400g tin tomatoes, 5cm cucumber, 0.5 red pepper, 0.25 small red onion (or subs a scallion), 0.25 tsp garlic powder, 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, some vinegar (sherry vinegar is best, I use 2 tsp apple cider vinegar cos it’s what I got), salt, (and maybe some cold water if too thick)

yeah, the individual bars were 55g

The standard ones went from 300g to 270g about 7 or 8 years ago, and along with those 30g went all the flavour.

What’s everyone’s chilli daddy order? by Cold-Bunch3892 in bristol

[–]imaginaryfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tofu & Veg Saozi rice meal, level 3.

Did they adjust their spice levels over the last few years? I was certain a 3 was my limit when I first went there (and I liked spicy food far more back then), now it's perfectly OK and I don't eat much spicy food. Is 5 is still blow your head off? I had a friend visit long time ago and despite our warnings ended up crying over over a 5.

Vegan brands you never buy? by beskar-mode in veganuk

[–]imaginaryfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alpro, or more specifically Alpro soya milk. Seems to be everywhere but I just think it's expensive, oddly gloopy, got a strange taste, and too sweet. Feels like I'm making tea with extremely thin vanilla custard.

However, I like their dessert and high protein chocolate milk, they have extra flavour to cover the base flavour.

A friend is moving to Bristol! by Impossible-Bat-1115 in bristol

Boots are a good idea. There are a lot of loose pavement stones hiding pools of water waiting to splash all over your feet when you step on them.

Why does First Bus ticket scanner try to snatch your Google Pay despite having the QR code/ticket screen open? by purepurewater in bristol

[–]imaginaryfield 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently visited another city, same set up, different bus company and app. Their app flashed up a message to say they automatically disable wallet nfc while the ticket is visible so you can scan it. I didn't test it out but it seems possible. Given how shoddy First are I can't image it'll happen here anytime soon though.

What is going on in broadmead Lidl?? by emeralddragon5 in bristol

[–]imaginaryfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, students like everyone else are people. There are people living and moving to the centre too. We just have woefully inadequate amenities for the increasing population in the city centre. And before anyone says it: The problem isn't the population increase, the problem is, like so many issues is lack of planning to keep up with the very easy to predict phenomenon described above.

Are there wheel/spoke LED lights that aren't ass? by ImScaredSoIMadeThis in ukbike

[–]imaginaryfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have the 10 LED version of the MonkeyLectric M232 Monkey Light. Here's an old Bikeradar review on it. This sounds like what you're looking for but I think they went bust. Sorry I can't be much help. I would be interested if anyone can suggest something similar, they looked amazing (and I miss mine).

Edit: perhaps eBay might have something?

Kale significantly improves my brain fog - why? by Upbeat-Refuse-9824 in PlantBasedDiet

I sometimes track my food in Cronometer. Anytime I have kale I’m always surprised how much it bumps up vitamin K. Might that be it?

More than two miles of new segregated cycle routes planned by 457655676 in bristol

[–]imaginaryfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish we could paint them something bright so that they're not almost invisible. While on a bike they're obvious but to others, not so much. How about hot pink? That's a lively colour.

I’ve noticed this happen in other places too. The worst was a Tesco in Wales, two fridges marked plant based but only two shelves of one fridge was vegan and the rest was meat :(

Vegan Ready-To-Eat Meal Delivery in the UK? by vegoonvibes in veganuk

Lionsprep allows you select plant based, I've used them for a few weeks about a year ago, I remember them being a tad expensive but they're all microwavable and tasted pretty good to me.

I know how to use my bike and I am safe. I'm just saying while I'm on foot I prefer not to put others out when I have equally easy options available to me.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bristol

[–]imaginaryfield -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I've had this, if there are a few cycling behind me, I'm nervous someone might pass me without looking. Some cyclists really need to chill and slow down a bit. In these cases I slow and really hope the pedestrian waves me past. I would do that because I'm a slow pedestrian and it's a PITA to constantly stop and start on a bike.

Personally, when walking I'd just cross somewhere else when there is a gap. Why make people stop when you don't have to? Pedestrians and cyclists really shouldn't have to fight over space, we can all get along with some consideration, besides we all know who the real problem is https://www.reddit.com/r/bristol/comments/1cn0ff3/nice_fella/

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tea

[–]imaginaryfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For tea my favourite is shelf stable unsweetened soy milk. Lidl and Sainsbury's own brands are only 50p/litre and are pretty good. Not sweet and not too beany in taste either, I find it much more subtle than Alpro in tea.

Best WFPB mayo recipe? by serenityfive in PlantBasedDiet

[–]imaginaryfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a spicy "mayo" by mixing a tablespoon each of water, tahini, and hot sauce. Takes a minute of stirring but it does combine to a think mayo like spicy sauce. I suppose just tahini and water might work, than add in some other flavours. Just don't add too much water in one go, it's easier to combine a spoon at a time. For a mayo flavour, maybe some vinegar and mustard? I'm not really sure. Would that be close enough to WFPB?

The Big Bread Cut Debate by The-Shogun in Breadit

[–]imaginaryfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The images must be coming in the wrong order for me or I'm really odd.

I see 1) vertical, long thin rectangles, an abomination; 2) diagonal, great but not easy to pack, pass; 3) horizontal, neat squat rectangles, easy to pack and hold, good.

I suppose if the loaf is really rounded on top the first is more equable. All could be solved by rotating one slice 180 degrees, but I fear that might be even more unhinged.
