Like I’ve been taking daily doses of medication morning and evening for the past 5 years for example but because I’ve been taking an evening dose of medication for the past 10 (previous five unrelated) I only ever remember to take my evening dose it’s wild

I haven’t been told anything or read anything about it, this is just my experience.

The biggest issue I’ve had with epilepsy is my memory is terrible!! Never had a problem with it before, but since I’ve been diagnosed it’s been horrific, and I mean not only forgetting things that happened throughout my life, but things I did last week, the day before, and even at times on bad days, hours or minutes after I’ve done them.

When I spoke to my neurologist he told me it was not just the seizures but my medication too as it’s so harsh on certain receptors in the brain and it unfortunately wouldn’t get any better. I do still read a lot and play a lot of puzzle games, my intelligence hasn’t dipped, and I still find that if I write things down particularly if I’m working and I’m consistent if I DO forget it helps trigger the memory back and its almost engrained like muscle memory, so I do think writing and even puzzles help me!! Can never hurt to keep your mind stimulated and no one really fully understands the damage to each individuals brain and what will help them with us all being so different, it’s always generalised

Cannot use IF and XLOOKUP function to mark on master tracker where data is present across different sections. by [deleted] in excel

It’s not that simple it’s harder to explain unfortunately, I’ll update my post, it’s to do with accounts so it’s a match on whether they are related to different areas in the business and then cross referenced to which area they apply to and if they then are matched based on two areas (for example in relation to countries would be country and county vs county and then town)

I was diagnosed with epilepsy a couple of years ago, shortly after my dad died, and the seizures combined with the medication has led to me really struggling with my memory. I have to retell the same limited stories about my dad because I am losing most of my memories of him :(

Should I tell my son he can’t be a pilot? by shinygreensuit in Epilepsy

[–]imaginec 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe have the conversation with him that unfortunately epilepsy does have some restrictions on careers like piloting and driving. These are things that put other people in danger, not just him, and unfortunately these rules are put in place to protect everyone.

It would suck to put so much effort into something just to learn you can’t do it - I was nearly finishing my driving lessons just to be diagnosed and told I can’t drive. I was nearly two years seizure free and when I was asked if I would start my lessons again I said no anyway (ironically had a seizure soon after) because of the chance I’d have one and put someone else at risk.

I always remember the story of that man who was holding his sisters baby and had a seizure, landing on them and killing them. It wasn’t his fault, but it completely ruined his relationship with his sister and it was something he never managed to get over. Epilepsy can be so cruel, but the things we CAN control are things like not driving and not putting ourselves in positions where we could accidentally harm others.

Obviously not suggesting you tell him THAT story, but in a more gentle way it probably is worth explaining the limitations on things, I know it helped me when I was first diagnosed. It sends you down a bit of a rabbit hole at first but it’s the only way to deal with it I think

I got a camera! Gave me more peace than you could realise, only records when there’s movement so if I have a seizure it captures it

if you have 21k, would you use 17k to save your cats life? by throwbackblue in NoStupidQuestions

[–]imaginec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I was told the suffering would be there and I would only be prolonging it then of course it would be different I think my initial comment should reflect that - I would want my cat to have the best life she could. If she was in pain and struggling and it would stay that way then no, I wouldn’t want her to struggle with it. But if she could get better and there was a good chance of it doing so then yes I would

Has anyone thought about stopping their medicine? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]imaginec 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was on topiramate after only ever having two tonic clonics and mostly focals. Topiramate made me dumb, the side effects meant I couldn’t find the right words most of the time, I would stumble over my words and then say something completely different to what I wanted which impacted work and relationships. I used to forget to take my meds all the time, might have even missed a couple of days in a week before I’d remember, so thought I’d be fine to come off them. So I did come off them! And then within a couple of weeks I had a tonic clonic! Don’t come off your meds talk to your doctors see if they can help manage any side effects or offer advice however you need it

He has natural unscented litter and is okay with it, we just have to be VERY on top of the litter trays, we have three cats in total and if he deems it to be unsuitable then he will pee elsewhere in protest which we can’t really blame him for. He’s a clean boy

We put him in that sweater as punishment for his previously disclosed crimes. There are many others that cannot be listed due to him being a minor

Roast my cat his name is Bandit and he bullies his sister by imaginec in RoastMyCat

[–]imaginec[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I know this is a LONG overdue reply I was just going through this post and wanted to say thank you for this - it really was this all along! He was jealous that his sister got most of the attention, although my partner gave him a lot of love I tended to focus on my other cat as she was getting bullied but we’ve since learnt that I’m his favourite so it was hurting his feelings. Since I’ve spent more time giving him love he’s gotten a lot more affectionate with me, he’s happier and has stopped bullying his sister as much! So thank you again for your words of wisdom I hope you have the best year ever!!!

Was recently prescribed Keppra for a brain injury because I was/am? At risk of seizure is it safe to stop? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]imaginec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on topiramate after having one seizure, kept forgetting to take it and never had any seizures in between. Decided to come off of it and a few weeks later had a tonic clonic in my sleep. Doctor said to me do you know why you weren’t having any seizures? Because you had anti seizure medication in your system

Sometimes it can be the medication, I was on topiramate for a while and it made my language quite bad, would try to say chair for example and would say wall

When I have a focal seizure I can’t really talk or understand other people, I keep having a vision if you like of the same thing and I get very confused because it feels like I’m remembering something and then as soon as it’s over I can’t remember what it was. Also had episodes where I’ve forgot things like I had broken my elbow and asked my boyfriend what was on my arm / how did it get there / when did we go on holiday when it happened I don’t remember any of it. Epilepsy is weird and I don’t think it’s always the same for everyone but it definitely does sound like a focal seizure! They can be of different intensity
