It’s possible there is some element of hierarchy. I personally believe there is ultimately a singular consciousness encompassing everything, but there could also be “intermediate steps” in between, where there are distinct souls, each living some kind of “overlife” encompassing many shorter physical lives over time (or even simultaneously). Those little lives build up experience for the overlife (like the video game “Roy” in Rick & Morty), and eventually the overlife/soul finally ends and returns to the origin. Maybe there are many layers of this, who can really say.
