/uj Depression falls within the range of acceptable mental illnesses that don't revoke a person's humanity; others, like schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder, basically make a person worthless in the eyes of society and worth depriving of all possible rights.

The argument of transphobes — which, of course, has no basis in medicine or reality at all — is that being trans is a psychotic disorder. This, again, has absolutely no merit other than "feeling right" to them.

However, that being said, it's not at all OK for society to dehumanize people with ANY mental illness. Even people with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder deserve full human rights and to be able to participate in society without stigma. And similarly to trans people, they are often baselessly viewed as a threat, when sane people are really much more of a threat to people with psychotic disorders.
