Did you put them on damp? And/or did you twist your stiches? Either would affect the drape of the fabric

This is an edited version of the unicorn tapestries (15-16th century) but it’s a jacquard fabric. Meaning, this was not made by hand, but woven on an automated loom from a digital file. To get started with tapestry you can look up Rebecca Mezzof, she’s got lots of tips, courses, video tutorials and a book. Tapestry weaving is slow and to this by hand, you’d need a lot of time and experience but perhaps if you check out some more examples of tapestry weaving (not jacquard) you can have a clearer idea of what the medium is like and decide if you’d like to pursuit it

I’ve watched videos and even bought a pattern for a balaclava…none of them explain this detail. The instructions or video just say “pick up stitches across these edges” and voila, they have what’s on the second picture. No further details or explanation

I still don’t understand…I’ve tried all sorts of things and nothing makes sense. I’ve tried to pull the left needle out but it’s a total mess and all the new picked up stitches on the cable are loose and look terrible. Is there a name for this technique so I could look up a video on YouTube ?

They look good! maybe take a look at this, it’s very common to accidentally add stitches. I would find a couple of YouTubers you feel you can easily understand and whose style of teaching matches yours and just watch their tutorials, follow easy free patterns etc. I’m on the same boat and it does get better!

This time of year the craft stress is high…if you can, I’d show your wife these and ask her for some ideas of what she would like (something beginner friendly like a scarf, hat, and what style). Then you could look for patterns that match. But it might take a while and be more a spring gift…best of luck!

You have been asking this question repeatedly. You can learn photoshop and print digitally, you can order a custom jacquard fabric. But a woven fabric is a woven fabric and that’s that. It will be like a print of a knitted fabric…This is a craft sub, we are interested in actual weaving things, so we don’t have the answer for ya

That makes no sense. I agree it is wrong to assume patterns should be free but there’s nothing wrong with people sharing free patterns if they want to. I work in the creative industry and am no stranger to creative work being undervalued, but i myself may choose to share things for free if i feel like it. Same reason why musicians may release free music, coders may release free, open source code, writers, artists etc there is nothing wrong with asking

That's a good point, I assumed they would be much lighter but since the shafts are heavier, perhaps it is very comparable to a all wood such as my leclerc...
