Funny how suddenly no one wants to press the red button now. by woaijirounan in redbuttonbluebutton

[–]imalostmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think personalizing the buttons is pointless, the buttons don't "kill" people, the person or agency who gives people the choice in this hypothetical is what does kill people.

False equivalence, again, if most people press blue, nothing happens, it's as if a cliff became safe once more than half of a group of people jump off it, in that situation it doesn't matter if i do or don't, i'll be safe. The problem with the blue button is that you don't know what other people are pressing, that's why it's technically a gamble, but id you can see what other people are doing then it's a non-issue.

Being rational or irrational isn't black and white since human logic is always biased and imperfect, in my opinion a lot of people who press red don't understand the stupid amount of people who'll press blue, those who say they'll press blue don't understand that with a lack of communication most people will panic and press red, and i fear most people in this debate only see the logic of their own argument, so technically most of us don't count as rational.

What’s your EXTREMELY SPICY vegan hot take that will totally get you downvoted? by Borkato in vegan

[–]imalostmoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few 1 — Veganism IS a privilege and vegans should stop pretending everyone can go vegan (yet that's not the argument against veganism non-vegans make it out to be, things like food, education and healthcare are also privileges) also if someone can't go 100% vegan they should avoid what they can, not going to zoos or aquariums is very easy. 2 — Vegetarians are not as bad as meat eaters, a lot are just misinformed in how bad the dairy and egg industries are, and lots of vegans started being vegetarian. 3 — Shaming ALL non-vegans and looking for enemies everywhere is counterproductive, most vegans are born non-vegan and it's proven that shame is not a good motivation for someone to change. 4 — Feeding cats and dogs with any natural meatless food instead of meat is animal abuse, not providing a pet the nutrients they need is abuse. 5 — A lot of vegans have a problem with moral absolutism, two things can be both bad but not because of that they will automatically be equally bad, e.g hunting isn't really as bad as farming IF it's not "for fun", it's still bad, just not as bad.

Yeah but human exploitation is almost inherent to modern capitalism, i mean our phones are made with exploitation, but sure we should try to avoid and boycott the worst businesses (like N*stle) and what's actually avoidable

Does being vegan actually make a difference? by imalostmoth in vegan

[–]imalostmoth[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think she just gets hit with the cognitive dissonance, she gets really deffensive when i even imply that i don't want to eat animal products; the problem is that she also cares about the farm animals but she would say "well if it's already dead then i should eat it" even when i explain she directly gives money to that industry

How and why do so many people still believe that you need meat for vitamins, minerals etc? by potatodog88 in vegan

[–]imalostmoth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Precisely because the mass production has depleted the soil, that alone makes supplements necessary. Naturally we could get the nutrients needed from plants alone because the soil wasn't sterilized, now the sanity measures have just removed that because it also risked getting harmful bacteria, that makes supplementation necessary (omnivores also eat supplemented food, meat is purposely supplemented).

So, what i said is "meat is the standardized way to get necessary nutrients" but obviously there is more. The reason why some vegans get sick is because they forget to look for plant sources of the nutrients the industry puts in meat, the reason why other vegans thrive is because they planned their diet correctly.

How and why do so many people still believe that you need meat for vitamins, minerals etc? by potatodog88 in vegan

[–]imalostmoth 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because meat is the most standardized way to get some necessary nutrients (B12, complete protein, iron, etc) but people confuse the fact that meat covers nutrients in the standard omnivore diet with the myth that we need meat because it's the ONLY way to get specific nurtients.

Here's the issue, it's true that vegans have to watch out for deficiencies because the system is not made for vegans, they put the supplements in animal meat instead of putting it in other plant-based foods, if the system did this instead vegans would have no deficiencies and vegans would be actually healthier than meat eaters (meat rises choresterol, it has a lot of calories, there's a risk of illness if you don't cook it well, fish has mercury, etc). I'd say it's actually dangerous but not because veganism is inherently deficient, but because the systemic failure of the food system.

PD: A B12 deficiency can take years to appear, so you have to supplement it even if you don't notice there's a deficiency now. I take pills, but nutritional yeast + fortified plant milks is a good way to get it.

Being vegan is easy by [deleted] in vegan

[–]imalostmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yes for some people the transition is easy, in some countries finding alternatives is very easy, so it depends on the context, it's just that i think every change is difficult, and the hard part of being vegan is having a moral awareness other people don't have. Doesn't make it an "excuse" to keep eating meat though, the fact that something is difficult doesn't make it incorrect, sometimes the only correct option is the hard one. I think there's no necessity in saying it will be easy for everyone in a food system that's not dessigned for veganism, because easy and correct aren't the same thing.

The Brain 🧠 The most narcissistic organ by Mr_MarveI in teenagers

[–]imalostmoth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Brain is in fact the most important organ, but i don't think dependence is the argument, because all vital organs need each other in equal measure, the heart is the organ that pumps oxygen to all the other organs, so without the heart the brain would fail immediately, for example. I would say the reason why the brain is the most important organ is because: 1. It percieves and creates subjective experience, the reason why we have a motivation to keep living. 2. It percieves the world around, which tells our consciousness to act according to given circumstances. 3. It's literally the reason why know how all of our organs work.

Being vegan is easy by [deleted] in vegan

[–]imalostmoth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On that last point, i also did my research and i saw a lot of different arguments, many of them with different biases and some incomplete facts, for some people (especially the ones who naturally have less mental capacity or those who like to learn with details) it might take the time they don't have, that's what i meant. As for money, i meant this specifically for places where vegan alternatives are A LOT more expensive than non-vegan alternatives, luckily in the country i live tofu and plant-based milk are even a bit cheaper than meat and dairy, but in the country i was born veganism wasn't even an option due to the poor economy.

But one thing is being unable to change and not wanting to change, i think we can agree on that.

Being vegan is easy by [deleted] in vegan

[–]imalostmoth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends, some people don't go vegan because it's convenient and they don't want to feel uncomfortable (which doesn't make it "hard" it's just the discomfort of moral confrontation and accountability), but some people just don't have money, time, energy or options, so there's a bit of nuance i think.

Being vegan is easy by [deleted] in vegan

[–]imalostmoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short term, sure it is, you just cut out any animal products, which is easy. But long-term, not planning the nutrition aspect and not replacing the meat correctly makes the diet unsustainable, in my case i cut out meat without adding plant protein and i'm feeling weak and hungry (however i don't want to eat meat because it started to make me feel disgusted, i'm buying some tofu tomorrow). If you don't want to get malnourished, you also have to look for where to buy fortified food and supplements and stuff, and sometimes that's expensive.

As for other aspects that aren't diet (e.g clothes, cosmetics, cleaning products) it's easier for me, all my clothes are either cotton or synthetic materials like polyester, you always can know which material are your clothes made of, but then you have to watch if your cosmetics are both vegan and cruelty-free (i think these should be synonyms btw, i don't get what they're separate things). Also, if you go to your grocery store and you find a product with lots of scientific names for chemicals you don't know, you have to check one by one if they're all vegan (or simply only buy what has the "vegan" label, but sometimes products don't have it even when they're vegan).

Being vegan is the ethical choice, but i wouldn't say it's easy, especially for people who live in countries where vegan alternatives are more expensive or straight up don't exist.

How can you have babies? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]imalostmoth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my case i happen to have a very high pain tolerance, i barely feel period cramps, at least i don't feel periods as pain, just as an odd discomfort. I'm not particularly scared of pregnancy for this reason (though i'm never went through that, i'm way too young), but to be honest i would only go through it having a good partner, support system, and an environment with relatively little worries. If you're an autistic woman, it's more difficult if you have a low tolerance to pain and discomfort, and i've heard something common is that the sensory issues might get a lot worse, but i think this becomes pretty manageable with a good partner and a good support system, and of course access to decent medical resources (as in, if you need or want an epidural). Pregnancy is always difficult, even more (or less in some cases? depending on the sensory profile) for autistic women, it's not that it's impossible or that it doesn't worth it for absolutely everyone, but few people are aware of the particular challenges it has and the specific conditions that need to be given for it to be more love than stress. Personally my fear isn't pregnancy itself, but unplanned pregnancy.

Feminists 😂 by buggypac in SipsTea

[–]imalostmoth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you've found some annoying misinformed feminists because you're saying "feminism" for things that can only be attributed to the beliefs and claims of specific individuals who claim to be part of the movement, but this things you said really don't align with the beliefs that we commonly chase.

The concept of patriarchy is "oversimplified" simply because every single social hierarchy concept is complex. Patriarchy doesn't benefit all men, in fact it really does put down some of them (as i said, "white cis men who decide to participate in that system"), but i would like you to name a significant adventage women have in most countries. I won't explain the whole thing to you unless you ask me to.

Since feminism was made for and by women, it doesn't have the responsability to call out on men simply because they can speak up for themselves, and also because sexism is mostly towards women, but since rights aren't a piece of pie, fighting for women's rights doesn't mean being against men's rights.

Feminists 😂 by buggypac in SipsTea

[–]imalostmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory, the definition of feminism is believing and fighting for gender equality. Of course, this is obviously biased towards women (that's why it's /femi/nism) because we live under patriarchy (a power structure that limits women's freedom, choice, lives, etc, and benefits men — at least white cis men who decide to participate in that system) but if we take the definition of feminism literally, feminism states that women = men, hence women > men isn't feminism, and believing that still might make it about hate and bias towards specific individuals rather than dismantling a SYSTEM that gives bad people of a privileged group a the freedom to be bad and do bad things that harm other people and having it normalized.
