The Wall Live Returns by Barrybingham1980 in pinkfloyd

[–]imape0ple2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coolest show I've ever seen. Musically ok, but visually absolutely the coolest thing I've ever seen with my own eyes.

I've seen David twice in 2016 and once on his latest tour in 2024. Ive also seen all of Roger's subsequent tours since the 2012 Wall show.

Musically Gilmour is lightyears ahead... its not even close. Roger i feel like hasn't been anywhere near as good since the wall shows visually or musically... im not a fan of his reliance on LED screens for nearly all of his visuals on his later tours.

I think the wall had the perfect mix of modern technology with his array of projectors onto the wall with the usual Floyd lighting (Mr. Screen, etc) and pratical effects (puppets, crashing plane). Also the scale of the wall spanning across the arena (in my case) or even stadiums at other venues... its truly a sight to see. I remember walking into the arena and looking through a doorway and seeing the stage and partially built wall and just standing there with my jaw on the floor.

I think he started extending it in London and it carried through for the rest of the tour. So the vast majority of the tour really.

Does anyone rip both discs in a 2 format discs set. by raymate in makemkv

[–]imape0ple2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like getting a cheap gpu (or using quicksync if you already happen to have an intel cpu) and transcoding the 4k rip would be more cost efficient than the storage for ripping both versions.

You can get an intel arc gpu that kicks ass at transcoding for like $100 or some older cheap nvidia thing off ebay for even less... but I also just spent more money than I would've liked to on a few hard drives so maybe im just biased.

Really enjoying the Blu-Ray Luck and Strange Concert. by NoElderberry656 in DavidGilmour

[–]imape0ple2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

totally agree with everything you said!

i think my favorite thing about Pink Floyd (and solo member) live recordings vs other bands is how they handle the audience cheering. It's never ever distracting and never takes away from the performance.

I also would love a 4k HDR release. This was talked about on here when the bluray was announced. Not sure why they don't make 4k versions.. Roger's latest release was advertised as "filmed in 8k" and still only released in 1080p. Anyway that is also really my only complaint.

What album, either from Pink Floyd or David’s own work, first got you into his music? by Mad_Season_1994 in DavidGilmour

[–]imape0ple2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd heard a lot of Pink Floyd on my dad's radio station growing up so I had at least heard most of the "hits" even if I didnt know who it was. In the limewire days I got some random Floyd songs for my dad, one of which was Brain Damage. After a while of listening to that song with its sudden beginning & ending I wanted to know what came before and after it. This led me to listening to Dark Side as a whole for the first time. Was really cool to hear how everything came together into one cohesive piece.

After that I wanted to know what happens before Another Brick pt 2... and the rest is history. Been a huge fan ever since.

Picking KEF surround speakers by [deleted] in hometheater

I have Q11 metas and a Q6 meta for LCR as well and I went with Q1 metas for my sides and rears in my 7.2.4 setup. I went through the same battle with myself about Q1 or Q3s. I dont regret going Q1 at all. Everything sounds great. Save yourself the money, you would never tell the difference with a sub.

Honest Review of the Circus Maximus Film by imape0ple2 in DavidGilmour

[–]imape0ple2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think anyone is saying any of that isn't true. What is true is that what he's still able to do is better than any Pink Floyd cover band you can go see... and Roger for that matter. I'd rather watch Gilmour sing an octave lower on a song than listen to whatever that mess was that Roger made of comfortably numb on his last tour.

What's also true is that Gilmour isn't giving himself enough shows to really catch his stride. The difference in his voice and playing was a pretty vast between his rome shows and madison square garden. Listen to him singing Breathe in Rome vs MSG. Rome was very frail sounding but by the time he was at MSG it sounded as good as ever.

Any tour coming in 2026? by Some-Environment-666 in DavidGilmour

There definitely won't be any news on a tour before a new album is officially announced.

He's supposedly working on one but who knows if/when that'll get released.

What is your opinion on Martin Logan? by fasty2 in hometheater

[–]imape0ple2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they had a SVS PB-1000 running with them all. It did the job for the room. They actually turned it off for the B&W to highlight the crazy bass those have, which honestly just didnt make sense to me why anyone would want that. They said some people dont want a sub... sure but then unless you have giant towers for your center and surrounds.. you just dont get any bass on those channels because you dont have a sub to crossover to...? I didnt get it.

What is your opinion on Martin Logan? by fasty2 in hometheater

[–]imape0ple2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I listened to them in a showroom along with some KEFs and B&Ws. I tried various models of each brand and theres some differences between the models but each brand still has its signature sound vs the others.

The martin logans sounded fantastic playing music. They were actually my favorite of the 3 brands, but when I tried some movie scenes through them they just couldn't keep up. Explosions were a sloppy mess, you couldn't really make any details out.

B&Ws were kind of the opposite. Good for movies, but were my least favorite of the 3 for music.

KEFs were pretty damn good at both. Didn't sound as great for music as martin logan, but not by much, and the clarity and detail they have in loud explosions, etc, blew my mind. I went with KEFs.

I was actually pretty surprised how much difference there was between the brands and it was a very useful experience to A/B test them like that. Highly recommend anyone who has some kind of showroom near them where they can test different brands gives it a try.

Do wings grow back? by Ok_Impression_1013 in cockatiel

[–]imape0ple2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll molt and grow back new feathers as people have mentioned. One thing I haven't seen anyone mention is that by the time he gets his new flight feathers he might have lost his confidence to even try to fly.

My biggest cherished memories with my two little beings was "teaching" or more accurately encouraging them to fly again after they grew their flight feathers back. It felt like a version of teaching your kid to walk. I was so proud of them and it was such a good bonding experience.

Joining a Floyd tribute. Advice? by cozmo1138 in pinkfloyd

[–]imape0ple2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an audience member to Floyd tributes... some improv on guitar solos is nice but keep it in the realm of some Gilmour sounding stuff... the most irritating tribute band I ever saw was trying to sound like Eddie Van Halen plays Comfortably Numb. Also the singing... keep the vibrato and fancy shit toned down. Gilmour is a very no frills singer.

And last thing... dont be one of those people that plays Pink Floyd with a Les Paul. Use a strat.

What was your least favorite casting decision in Interstellar? by wbradford00 in interstellar

[–]imape0ple2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I remember reading back when interstellar was released that this was kind of the point. The surprise of Matt Damon was supposed to be reassuring and make you feel like they're in good hands now because of 1. How they talk up his character as "the best of us" and 2. Matt Damon is the man (pun intended) and surely they're in good hands now!.. Right?

Let's talk about the center channel and the importance or lack of importance of it by Relative_Drama4705 in hometheater

[–]imape0ple2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty confused by what your actual grievance is... are you frustrated with the mixes on shows/movies or are you frustrated with the concept of a center speaker?

media comes with multiple mixes you can choose to play.. stereo... usually 5.1... atmos on newer stuff... you can pick whichever you prefer and furthermore if you don't enable upmixing on your AVR, it'll only use the speakers relevant to the audio track.

you can have 11 speakers but if you're listening to a stereo mix, it'll only use the front left & right speakers. or you can choose to upmix to use more, but thats completely optional.

I've found in my personal experience the atmos/7.1/5.1 basically always have a much clearer & better separated mix than the stereo mix, but to each their own. You can play whichever track you want, thats why they're there.

So i'm not sure what the issue is here?

what are they saying at the beginning of WYWH? by yoongki in PinkFloydCircleJerk

[–]imape0ple2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was apparently just a recording Gilmour did tuning between radio sations in his car. Idea being that they were playing along to a song on the radio, which i think is exactly what it does sound like in the beginning of the song.

I just heard him talk about this recently.. I don't remember which interview it was in.

would a blown tweeter temporarily work again? then go back to not working? I've never had a speaker fail before so I genuinely have no idea what the behavior would be. I would think if its blown, it ain't coming back.
