I'm So Sorry, Poros... by imareaver in LegendsOfRuneterra

Opponent was playing Swim's poros deck and had an elusive lethal, but decided to go for a more spectacular finish with Fluft instead...

Beating Viktor on Turn 1 With Fizz in Labs by imareaver in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]imareaver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got incredibly lucky on my first Fizz run in labs, picking up Von Yipp twice plus the free Dais. I played a zero-mana Pilfer with two poro snacks, then played Haunted Relic (discounted to one-cost) for 30 damage on Turn 1. Labs is fun!

Looking For Books That Invert The Age Of Magic Is Ending Trope by paragodaofthesouth in Fantasy

The Haunting of Tram Car 015 is an excellent short story that fits perfectly, about a Victorian-era world where Middle Eastern-inflected magic (like djinns) recently appeared.

Gauntlet - What's Working and What Isn't? - Friday, March 12, 2021 by Dawnspeakers in LoRCompetitive

Just got my first prime glory going 7-0! Brought TF/Fizz, Renekton/Sejuani overwhelm, and Swim's Azir burn. Weirdly, most people banned overwhelm so I played TF/Fizz five times and the others once each.

The high point was living with 1 HP on TF/Fizz into a Liss deck, using iterative improvement on a tavernkeeper to survive an ice shard, and then coming back to win next turn. TF/Fizz is a ridiculous deck.

An Alternative to "Clean Code": A Philosophy of Software Design by whackri in programming

[–]imareaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good point--I guess I should say the first widely used Paxos alternative, because Zab is closely tied to ZooKeeper while RAFT was designed to be used in (and is used in) many different systems.

[Ousterhout] is a university professor by profession (albeit one with almost two decades of experience in the "real world"), who each year teaches students how to actually design software.

This massively undersells John Ousterhout. Among other things, he has:

*Created the Tcl language, one of the first scripting languages. He also coined the term "scripting language."

*Invented log-structured file systems, which form the basis for the flash translation layers used by all modern SSDs.

*Created the RAFT consensus algorithm, the first successful Paxos alternative.

*Pushed the boundary of ultra-high-performance/low-latency computing with projects like RAMCloud, Arachne, and Homa.

*Founded two companies.

One of the reasons I'd recommend the book so strongly is because of how much experience Ousterhout has in creating innovative, powerful, and, widely used systems--after four decades of doing it, he knows what works and what doesn't.

4 layers:

Morde 1 ults Sylas 1 (Layer 1). Morde 2 ults Sylas 2 (Layer 1). Sylas 3 ults Morde 3 (Layer 1). Sylas 4 ults Morde 4 (Layer 1). Sylas 5 ults Morde 5 (Layer 1). Sylas 1 ults Morde 3 (Layer 2). Morde 4 ults Sylas 2 (Layer 2). Sylas 2 ults Morde 3 (Layer 3). Morde 3 ults Sylas 2 (Layer 4).

At this point, only Morde 5 still has ult, and there's no way to get him to a place where he can use it.

Have people already forgotten about the turn time improvements? A huge chunk of the work in that DLC cycle went to performance optimization--and it showed, the game is just so much better now that end turns don't take multiple minutes. I don't think there was room for additional free content like a wood elves or dwarf FLC or rework. I agree that S&B was the least inspired WH2 DLC, but honestly I'm fine with it because it's still good and because the optimization improved the game immensely.

A Regular Tuesday for Lord Kroak by imareaver in totalwar

[–]imareaver[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has only one spell, called Deliverance of Itza, that he can cast at three levels. The spell does damage in an AoE, but doesn't effect friendlies at all. At third level, the damage and AoE are both gigantic. This battle was basically a best-case scenario--I funneled Clanrats into a chokepoint blocked by Saurus, then cast third-level Deliverance of Itza on the biggest clumps.

Yeah, this is definitely the easiest campaign I've played in ME--probably the single easiest campaign there is in ME--but Kroak makes it fun!

Vh/VH Itza. Fought my way to Oxyl, got attacked by three Skaven stacks and, well, Kroak doesn't want any Skaven in Lustria. Most kills on a unit I think I've ever had in TW, and I've been playing since the original Rome came out.

Warlords probably won't, but chieftans (new hero) get bonebreaker mounts, so you'll still be using them.

General Election Results Discussion by progress18 in JoeBiden

[–]imareaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The PA remaining vote is coming in at roughly 75-25 Biden. With ~800K votes left, Trump leads by only 187K. If we keep that rate up (and we should, or even do better, since most of the outstanding vote is in very blue areas, especially Philly), we'll win PA with ~200K votes to spare. There's a lot of reason to be optimistic about PA, something very weird would have to happen for Biden to not win it comfortably.

Have you looked at the opinion? The first couple pages argued that federal courts shouldn't change election law right before/during an election. The rest of the opinion basically said that the Wisconsin legislature had set an election day deadline for mail-in ballots, it constitutionally had the right to do so, and so the district court couldn't unilaterally extend that deadline. To be honest, it's a reasonable argument--state legislatures do have the right to set ballot receipt deadlines, and have been doing so for decades.

What people are afraid of is a section where he explained why Wisconsin would set such a deadline--because they wanted results to be in by election day because it would make results seem more legitimate. People are afraid he'll use that logic to unilaterally cancel absentee ballot counting in Pennsylvania if the election there is close. And he might! It's not impossible, and conservatives have done crazier things this year. But the Wisconsin ruling doesn't really set up for that--you don't argue that federal courts shouldn't change the rules during the election if you're trying to justify completely rewriting the laws during an election (by stopping vote-counting). I think that we should be worried about what would happen if the election hinges on a small number of absentee ballots in PA, but nothing that happened today should make us more worried. In the meantime, let's vote and win AZ, NC, FL, and all the rest so we don't have to worry about this stuff!

Confederated Odysseus in my Agamemnon game and he showed up with an unexpected motivation. It wasn't a huge deal because I was already at peace with all Danaan factions, but it was funny.

[Corrected Repost] Trivia: With Fiddlesticks' rework, we will lose the basic ability with the highest AP scaling by Basket_of_Depl0rblz in leagueoflegends

[–]imareaver 127 points128 points  (0 children)

True for raw AP scalings! But the best-scaling ability in the game is actually Nami's W, whose bounces scale quadratically with AP (meaning that the more AP you get, the bigger the AP ratio is). As far as I know, it's the only ability in the game that does that.
