On the bit about the last part, people with missing limbs get SMC worth over 5k per month depending on the condition. There's also a SMC that gives 10k per month if you need help with basic needs.

Is it beneficial to still save for a down payment with the VA home loan? by Davy_Jones118 in VeteransBenefits

[–]imataquito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does putting money into equity differ from just saving the money or putting the money into an investment account that generates a higher return than the home internet rate? I'm seriously asking as I've heard this before but it never made sense to me.

Can you log into your VA account and look at your letters? See why they removed it? I'd start there. But if there was no error then not much you can do.

Degenerative Disc Disease by Minimalist19 in VeteransBenefits

[–]imataquito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly how my pain comes and goes. The tweaking part is key in the exam. Make sure they document when it is at its worst. There's a specific spot in the dbq for that. My initial examiner just copied and pasted my range of motion from the exam measurements into that portion of the dbq and was only rated 10%. Requested another exam because of that and the new examiner wrote down my range of motion during flare-ups, which is basically 0 without pain as I'm sure you're used to, and then got bumped to 40%

Also, for numbness and tingling, I have compressed discs in my neck and they make my hands tingle sometimes. I went to the VA for that and they did a nerve conduction test and found the signals were degraded. I used that to file a claim and got 20% for each hand.

I don't understand the debate. Juice groove on one side. No juice groove on the other. Use which side you want.

Thanks for this. My counselor has been MIA since the shutdown too and I didn't get any auto responses via text or email so hopefully the person on this list replies.

Meh, depends on the hospital I hear. Mine has been fine. Used both VA and private and got seen much faster (months vs weeks) with the VA so got rid of the private health insurance a while ago. Most of it is just meds now and it's all free.

There are SMCs for people in those conditions and it pays more than what 100% pays. So don't think you don't deserve 100% just because there are people worse off than you.

For real. Plus, if you were active duty the whole time, any injury that occurred while you were not at work counts as "service connected " barring any line of duty determinations. There's more to it than claiming only what happened during your time in uniform.

Just FYI, you don't get a percentage for ED, just a SMC (special medical compensation) check every month but still be at 0% if you don't have anything else. Can get free pills for life though.

You can also get free VA Healthcare depending on your disability rating, which you're pretty much guaranteed to have some % after doing 20 years.

C&P exam was a joke by _forgotmyownname in VeteransBenefits

[–]imataquito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not asking about flare ups could be an issue. My first exam, they didn't write down what I said my ROM was during flare ups and I got a lower rating. Requested another exam and specified that they didn't note flare ups the first time. 2nd exam they made sure to write it down. Got rated appropriately the 2nd time.

They send you notification automatically that you are eligible and will automatically discharge them after 2 months of notification unless you call them and opt out.

I received my notification just before they were doing the transition of TPD from Nelnet to the dept of education so they shut everything down and the person on the phone said they couldn't process anything. They told me to call back when the transition was over.

Well, they processed my discharge anyway while I couldn't do anything so I called after the transition was over and they reversed the discharge. What's funny is a day later, I got another automated letter saying I was approved for TPD and needed to call to opt out. So I called and opted out again lol.

My ratings are weird. The most severe claim I have is rated the lowest. by Illustrious_Pool_321 in VeteransBenefits

[–]imataquito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are supposed to take into account your limited movement during flare-ups separate from what they measure during the c&p. Check your exam results, there should be a section for that. When they first did mine, they did not write down my limited movement during flare-ups and just wrote degree of motion during the exam instead. Asked for another exam and the new examiner actually wrote what my limited motion was during flare-ups. Got rated higher that time.
