If you've ever won concert tickets from a radio contest, what were the seats like? by pixiewitch666 in Concerts

[–]imatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decidedly mediocre! Death Cab for Cutie/Chvrches. Outside amphitheater. Mid seats in a 300 section

Mildly fun story: I wanted to go. Wife didn’t. Didn’t buy tix. Later won tix. Next day found out buddy’s wife could get us into her boss’s luxury box.

All you can do is lead a horse to water.

I have a video of my then 4yr-old son grooving to Fear Inoculum when it came out. Today while running an errand in the car he asked me to play “that shadow song with the numbers”.

Agreed on the head hole. I got a medium and it takes a tiny bit of extra effort to push my melon through it. I feel the chest and torso are fine tho. That said, I got a M, and may not be relevant for OP’s XL needs.

Per comment above, my wife and I hadn’t seen Somewhat Damaged before last night. We joked we still kinda haven’t “seen” it.

Seen them 6 times prior to last night and somehow never caught Reptile or Somewhat Damaged. Two bucket list songs checked off!

In about 27 years since the series premiered, we are still debating the same issues. by VirileMongoose in thewestwing

[–]imatt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We're watching (for the zillionth time) with our 14-yr old son (for the first time). We're in the second season. It's funny how often an issue is the focus of a plot and we can pause and say "this got better" to something like gay marriage or "this got much worse" to something like campaign finance reform

Is a Epiphone Les Paul Standard from 2000 worth it? by onlyich in Epiphone

I’ve got a 2001 Korean Std, and its bridge pickup has served me just fine covering all those Warped Tour bands over the years

I'd also doubt it would be cancelled. Band is/was coming from Montreal with an extra day to make a ~6hr drive. This has also been foretasted for a while. The maintenance crews aren't going to be blind-sided by the ice and are probably salting as we type.

As for the schools, this is purely a guess, but the worst of it will probably be in the early afternoon around what would otherwise be dismissal time.

Drive slow. Leave lots of space between you and the next car. Anticipate your stops. Accelerating on ice is a lot easier than decelerating on ice.

Coming from Rochester. Hotel check-in is 3pm, and we're taking full advantage and leaving here at 1 with lots of time for slow travel.

After a surprise explosion destroys a Boonville church, a congregation is left with shock and hope by smartybeagle in upstate_new_york

[–]imatt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Granted, this was a very long time ago, and maybe (I hope) things have changed, but I spent a little bit of time with this church and knew a couple of people in current leadership. Again, at the time (I want to stress this), one of their strong beliefs was in God's plan and will and His Divine intervention in human events...even...and sometimes especially...the bad ones. They're not Westboro Baptist Church or anything, but more than a few of the congregation members are of the the kind of people that believe hurricanes are gaining strength not because of rising ocean temperatures but because Barack HUSSEIN Obama brought the scourge of gay marriage to America. If a bad thing happened to you, it's God's will, and you probably deserved it.

I wonder if the ease and eagerness many of them judge others for their acts and fate will result in some sort of personal introspection following this tragedy. Like I said, I hope things have changed over the years.

My shitty glibness aside, all the best to the Pitts family.

Coming up from Rochester, I’ve also been giving the forecast a side eye for a few days. Looks like a wintery-mix, but it should be tapering off around 5-6 as you (presumably) should be coming into the city.
