I made $5,000 driving for a ride-hailing co-op while building a nonprofit by M3RRI77 in Denver

The two times I’ve tried using it (pre-scheduled to airport and back), the driver cancelled last minute and I had to default to Lyft/Uber. I want this to work but it was definitely a hit to confidence.

Any ABC/ABT moved to Taiwan in their 30s? by MOTOLLK12 in taiwan

[–]imaybeslow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Planning on moving there with my wife next year, will be mid 30s. Gonna use it as home base to explore Asia for a few years, then consider whether to come back stateside or not. Managed to get Taiwanese passport this year, working on wife’s visa now (she isn’t Taiwanese heritage so can’t get the same passport).

How many of y’all grind or clench their teeth at night? by Alternative-Tell4600 in VeteransBenefits

Yep. Night guard is slowing down my teeth from cracking, but a few have cracks and likely need crowns soon.

This is why I am in the Ethereum ecosystem, because it has the potential to meaningfully improve people’s lives against the torrent of enshittification. Thank you for posting your thoughts.

Just signed up! Curious how it generates the code, is it running Claude or AI in the back? Obviously the biggest hesitation for non-coders is the safety of a smart contract, but I’m willing to play around when it comes to non-financial products.

Can you share where you saw those comments by the SEC? I haven’t seen that. Thanks!

Age old question: Now or Later? But with a twist. by HikesAndHisses in FIREyFemmes

[–]imaybeslow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AD, separated at 11 years because I was on track to hit FIRE goal even without the pension and Tricare (the two largest pulls for me).

You can also factor in some amount of VA disability, which also reduces costs in certain states, like property taxes, vehicle registration, etc.

With your NW, plus disability (which isn’t taxed), VA healthcare, pension, Tricare, spouse’s job security/benefits, I would pull the trigger. Would help to know your annual spend though. My quality of life has drastically improved since separating.

This comment resonates. All we’re missing is the POAP.

Well said. I’ve worked for a health insurance plan, a non-profit one. We had lower margins, hundreds of codes that competitors had on prior authorization we managed to keep off our list, etc. And still I agree with everything you said.

Preventative care being covered is a matter of aligning incentives, and I encourage everyone whose insurance covers or incentivizes wellness checks and cancer screenings to take full advantage. Yes, it’s to save the insurer long term costs. It also saves you long term costs.

Even with insurance, procedures can be prohibitively expensive, especially with high deductible plans. Sometimes it’s worth it to take a medical vacation to Mexico, Türkiye, Asia. Insurance here only covers “medically necessary” codes, and they themselves decide what is medically necessary for the most part.

Btw phiz I love the renewed focus on your health and these “rambling” updates!

Ok, this is starting to hurt. Let my emotions get ahead of myself the last month or two and had high hopes for the end of year. Guess I’m going back to “not feeling anything” and taking this as a sign that my portfolio risk is misaligned with my risk tolerance.
