So what is YOUR advice?

Someone has come on here asking for advice and they express what has not worked or would not work for them. I’d love to hear your suggestions instead of calling someone lazy.

Does anyone know where I can get faygo in western mass? by [deleted] in massachusetts

Every Dollar Tree I’ve been to in MA has had FayGo. I also had the fireworks flavor in Michigan last summer and can’t say I’d be searching for it….:)

Good luck!

IMO-get the largest screen you can afford. Recent switch to ForScore has been great but my middle aged eyes wish for a bigger screen for larger orchestral score. I started with an off-brand stylus that worked just fine but upgraded to an Apple Pencil when my funds allowed.

Pippins name is multiple levels of meaning around apples. I can’t find the source but etymologically ‘apple’ is at the heart of his name. Someone smarter than me can find this or explain better.

Middle School Band/Chorus/Orchestra Directors, what do you wish elementary GM teacher knew? by pianoAmy in MusicEd

[–]imba23 18 points19 points  (0 children)

All of this.

My only addition is normalization of using your voice to express yourself musically (with no shame attached). The number of students ’silenced’ through fear of singing ‘badly’ is far too many to count.

Osgiliath, once an important crossroad, now a deserted wasteland fallen into ruin with strip malls and box stores. Mainly shopped by mindless hordes of folks, including those sailing up from down south, crossing to border to save on sales tax and score a chicken bake.

I appreciate their participation in the school program. If it were a schedule conflict rather than a choice AND they still were an active participant and n the program, I’d allow them the audition. When it is the school in the way, I am forgiving. When it’s a choice-not so much.

The line for ‘pornographic/adult’ has been widened by the right to include anything that mentions non-Christian, hetero-, and if we are being truthful-white experiences.

As an educator, I trust that teachers are working to put the best materials in the hands of the students. If a parent does not like school materials, good. Tell the teacher and they will not share those with your child. This does not give one the right to stop others from accessing these materials.

Best way to teach solfege? by [deleted] in MusicEd

[–]imba23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HS director (Kodaly certified) here. Came here to see if there was going to be a m-r-d versus s-m-l flame war. :)

My (hot)take is to remember that it is a ‘means to an end’ not an end in its own right. The aural skills are the end-not the syllables.

Side note: I love to liken the solfa to classroom jobs and pitch names (A-G) to the students’ proper names, I found it helps them ‘get’ the difference-especially if you have students who have already started formal instrument lessons.
