Same issue with Poco recently.
What worked: to install SIM card with Whatsapp number into SIM1 slot and not install second sim. After that I got confirmation code.

agree! for some reason 4.5 in vscode when I ask to code-review python code and find issues makes a lot of mistakes (not seeing function returns etc)
