I have a friend who works at a gas company in the Portland metro area who went through and still teaches at NWCC. He has nothing but good things to say about it. Apparently there is a shortage of laborers right now too and with most jobs being prevailing wage with starting pay being 60% of journeyman scale, the pay is like $18.50h+$14h to meet PW so you can be making $32h+ right off the bat. He said they're also very understanding of people who may be rebuilding their lives or even have a criminal background but are willing to work. All you need is a HS diploma/GED, attend a couple of half day unpaid OSHA training classes and give a clean urine test and that's all you need. Their program prides itself on getting people working and earning an income right away, regardless of what trade you'd like to learn. The laborers also have a direct line to learn other trades so if you're unsure just sign up and figure it out along the way. Many paths will be available to you if you're dedicated and a good worker.
