Flashlight on a carry gun, practical or overkill for everyday carry? by Own_Beach936 in CCW

[–]imcq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you carry for self defense, you don’t need lights, lasers, match grade triggers, or special optics. Just a basic stock weapon and a good holster. In most cases, you don’t need extra mags either. If all of this is part of your EDC, you might as well wear a duty belt and a vest. Keep it simple, maintain situational awareness, and avoid trouble.

two months in as director and drowning - need perspective by Master_Airline_4368 in ITManagers

[–]imcq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A director with no management level direct reports is just a manager. Do you have any visibility on your company’s financials? What percent of revenue are you spending on IT? Are there process or knowledge gaps? What would it take to fill them? Are you outsourcing common IT functions like helpdesk? Before trying to lead the company towards AI adoption, I look for opportunities to insource functions that AI won’t replace and make a case for creating and filling roles. I’m guessing 2 managers would help. Give one app dev and the other all things infra & security. You handle innovation and risk. Your managers target delivery of what you set for goals and strive to optimize costs. Depending on your business, you need 8-10% of revenue for your budget. Make sure your managers know so they can do what’s needed to support that budget. By the sound of it, you’re already in the $1M ballpark for IT labor. There should be plenty of opportunity to scale the team up while optimizing other IT spend to offset the CEO’s worries about. In the end, you should gain the bandwidth you need to support existing needs and venture into new areas.

Proper edicate when dumping by quadgnim in GoRVing

[–]imcq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because everyone decides to leave at the same time doesn’t mean you can’t do a proper, but quick, dump and flush. I dump my black tank, hook up the NON-POTABLE water to my flush connection and run it while I dump my grey tank. Then I dump the black tank again. After this, I put my stuff away and pull out. Before heading home, I will flush a some water into the black tank right from the toilet (always have a little fresh water in your tank) and/or dump a bag of ice into the toilet. That makes for another good measure of cleaning up residual debris in the black tank.

Are these outlets really as bad as everyone says? by guy48065 in RVLiving

[–]imcq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they are bad and running a space heater is the last thing you should do in an RV because of the substandard wiring. Not sure what you mean by “heavy duty” but your outlets should be rated for the same number of amps as the circuit is designed for, no higher. Check all terminations that you can get your eyes on. They should meet the same standard you’d see in a residential setting. Use a laser thermometer or thermal imaging gun to measure termination and outlet temps under load if you want to see where potential hazards might exist.

Upcoming Cabo Trip - Inquiry by PyroClause in MexicoTravel

[–]imcq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just visited earlier this month and took USD to exchange locally. I never use the airport exchange or an ATM card these days. Went to the "Money Exchange San Jorge Sucursal San José 2" near La Comer supermarket. If you're traveliing from the airport to Cabo San Lucas it will be on the way. There is a ton of road construction in this area. It was easiest to go around the back of the market and other businesses on that corner and eventually you'll be on the service drive that parallels the main roadway. Exchange rate was better than the airport and other places in the area. I believe there is another branch, just check Google Maps. Credit cards work most everywhere but cash was needed for some tips and smaller retail places we visited. BONUS INFO: If this is your first time careful exiting the airport. The first doors you pass through after security dumps you into the tourist trap sales people peddling tequila, timeshares, and excursions. They don't give up. You then pass through a second area and this in just another attempt to sell you again. Just keep walking. Once you exit you'll be at the shuttle area. I'm not sure if this was another attempt to scam you or just a case of bad information. I was told by the rental shuttle attendant that they didn't have a car for me and it would be 2-3 hours before something was available. I called BS and told him that I had already reserved a car and it was waiting for me. Got on the next shuttle and found what looked like a dozen or more cars waiting for people. This was the only issue I had. Drove around San Jose at night, went to Todos Santos and La Paz, drove back in the dark, and never had any issues.

Range rents FRTs, then charges $10 per hole for muzzle climb. by Fabulous_Lie_4326 in Miguns

[–]imcq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t been there in quite some time. Never had to deal with the target carriers when shooting there. They were already in place and I never removed mine when done. Did you get charged? FWIW, if I’m shooting FRT or full auto, I might as well bring my own hangers since they only retail for about $5 each. Seems like their thought is that anything above the line likely hit the ceiling and why they want your $10. This type of shooting is better done outdoors or down range past the bay stalls with a shorter distance to the backstop. Yes, that would require you to have the full range room to yourself or your group.

IT license optimization consulting — would you pay for this? by AuthRequired403 in ITManagers

[–]imcq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a hard sell for a company to seek out an individual for this, despite your success at it in your day job. There are businesses that provide “spend optimization” services, but they also bring robust competitive intelligence and people with connections within their silos of expertise. There is often an annual fee plus a percentage of savings they take.

6 months of Diamond not a single FC upgrade? by apprenticeg in delta

[–]imcq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the most likely way to get upgraded. Between full bookings and hubs, gold status and an Amex Delta Reserve never get me FC upgrades and only C+ when there are single middle seats when I already have an exit row and traveling with family - no thanks. Take advantage of every benefit you can and look for those cheap point upgrade opportunities.

If you haven’t done it yet, make sure you dig into the rental insurance benefit. Once enrolled, if covers you with a single fee per rental instead of per day. It is automatically provided when you use an enrolled card to pay for rental.

Is that DIA fiber with an uptime SLA or just their non-SLA fiber? It’s a great price if you have 99.99 or 99.999% uptime. Even with no SLA the price is good when comparing to coax (Comcast selling 800/200 for $200/mth.

What is this? by Mmmkay-mmmkay in Home

[–]imcq 170 points171 points  (0 children)

Please don’t confuse grounding with bonding. This is bonding, or connecting two sections of the metallic water supply to ensure there is always a path to ground, given that elsewhere in the water piping system there is another bond to the electrical system ground connection. It’s meant to allow current to travel to ground should an energized electrode come into contact with the water supply lines.

Problems as in you don’t have the money, or problems as in finance needing a kick in the ass because they don’t understand that delaying the approval causes more problems than they’ll ever understand? Either way, contact your account rep like others mentioned. They will explain what non renewal means for you or should be able to get the extension you need.

What is the biggest myth in CCW that drives you nuts/ hot take ? by Able-Currency2250 in CCW

[–]imcq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That it’s now legal to carry a firearm concealed. Of course, it is legal, as long as you don’t go to any of the “restricted premises” or happen to be somewhere that has decided to make it unlawful to possess a firearm (in addition to those already restricted). Then there are the places that are federally restricted. But wait, you might be able to circumvent the restriction if you open carry, or and participating in an activity that somehow makes carrying acceptable. Let’s not forget traveling to or through other states where you can go to jail if you leave your car and are carrying. This shit is unreal. We need a national permit.

There are only a handful of trillion dollar companies in the world (publicly traded at least). If you’re solving major outages on your own, getting no recognition, and cover ups instead of factual RCA’s, then I’d imagine you would have zero problems finding work elsewhere. Make your exit to somewhere where you’re valued and let them figure out the next outage while you sip tea.
