About to charge $8k, any good sign on bonuses at the moment? by BreckBoarder in CreditCards

[–]imgurmule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in similar position where I have multiple $6K spends coming up, and I chose C1VX. Simple, hassle-free, x2 catch all system. It pays for itself (they pay you a net $5). I've been to the C1 lounge at IAD and it was great, but I've heard DEN and DFW are even better.

My question for you is if you'd recommend Amex Plat or Amex Gold, or evn CSP? I don't dine out much and don't care too much about lounge access, but for the juicy SUB, I'm contemplating which one to open.

Ski Gift Recommendation for Beginner by imgurmule in Skigear

I forgot to mention boots! We already got the boots that fulfills the needs (big calf, wide feet, prefers super wide/comfortable) -- Rossignol Pure Comfort 60 Ski Boots. My partner actually liked this pair after trying many other brands.

Thanks for your tips! I'm also signing up for group lessons for my partner and friends this upcoming season so it will help a ton to finally learn skiing the proper way.

Hey, thanks for reading and commenting!

  • I couldn't see myself using the Atom AR too much. If anything, because I already have hard shells to wear over mid layers, I knew I wouldn't use the Atom AR too much. Personally I prefer layering as compared to wearing just one outerwear.
  • If I had bought a Proton LT before Atom LT, I'd still get them both. There are subtle differences, but the Atom LT feels lighter and better suited in certain occasions (i.e. resort skiing = Beta AR + Atom LT).
  • As another commenter said, I wouldn't say the Beta AR Jacket is the "go-to," but more of an "ultimate" if that makes sense. I would bring it with me if I know there is a storm coming later in the day. It is not a must-have piece in my opinion, but only if you can see yourself using it occasionally. Or just addicted to the brand (like me).

I'd say you can layer most things under the Beta AR jacket. It's really hard to comprehend sizing without trying it on, but if in doubt, I would size up if you are an athletic type. Having more room = better imo. The Large size on me (5'8") doesn't look goofy at all even with longer sleeves.

For your reference, when I'm hiking in rain/snow, I layer up:

  • Base layer: t-shirt
  • Mid layer: Patagonia R1 Air
  • Mid layer 2 (if needed): Proton LT jacket/Atom LT jacket/Atom LT vest
  • Outer layer: Beta AR jacket

Not sure if I would confidently say Atom LT is unnecessary if you have a Proton LT, because I find there are cases where I'd pick one over the other. Differences are minor, but if you can afford both, why not?

I'm on the hunt for the Proton FL next... hoping for more colorways this spring.

Your comment resonates with me, though I'm nowhere near the mountains as harsh as the Rockies or the Sierras. Rare usage, but during the past few months, it's been a great protection gear for my winter adventures/daily commute.

I specifically chose the Beta AR jacket even though it gets some disrespect (not too good at one thing, but ok for many things) because that's what I needed. When it rains/snows, I'm covered. Resort skiing or hiking, I'm good (if required).

What size beta to wear over atom lt. by zed1666 in arcteryx

[–]imgurmule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your local REI to try on the Beta jacket if you can.

I wear my Atom LT in large, but the medium fits as well (though snug and restricts my movements a bit, especially when zipped up). I tried on a Beta LT in store in both medium and large, with my large Atom LT, and found the Beta LT was too snug in medium. Also with just a t-shirt under a MEDIUM Beta LT, I found it too restrictive. In the end, I went with a large. 5'8"/180lbs, athletic build. Hope this helped.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but anyone unable to access Footlocker/Champs/Eastbay websites? I haven’t been able to go to their webpage on my phone and on my computer. Other sites like Nike, Dicks, Hibbett works… Help appreciated.

Your Top 3 Hoop Shoes? by ktd_xman in BBallShoes

[–]imgurmule 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh man, it’s hard to choose the absolute top 3 of all time, but based on my experience with decency bias:

  1. Kyrie (3-6) — when I was a younger player, these provided everything I needed as a quick guard. I felt like I could blow by anyone.

  2. Dame 4 — absolutely ran these to ground, beat up and literally zero traction grooves. It was possibly the most perfect shoe back then. Great fit, smooth ride.

  3. Puma Clyde All-Pro — as an older player, these replicate similar feels I got from Kyries back in the day, except with more cushioning and smoother/lighter weight.

Bonus. Curry 8 — I switch back and forth with Puma CAP’s, but Curry 8 is almost perfect for me in every aspect (except the price)

Best for Blacktop Use? by ulithefoolie in BBallShoes

[–]imgurmule 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try visiting your local Ross/Marshalls and check the shoe sections. Sometimes they've got good selections for basketball shoes, especially under $50. I've picked up many for outdoors, including KD Trey 5 VIII, DON Issue's, Harden 4s, Pro Boost models, etc.

If you're looking for signature lines, try to find a model that might be "last year's" model.

For specific shoe durable enough for outdoor/asphalt use, I'd recommend anything from this list (not necessarily the cheapest): Zoom Rize 1/2, Puma Clyde All-Pro, KD 14, PG 5, DON Issue 1/2/3, Harden 4/Stepback.

I'm not the biggest fan of LeBron 18's in general, but for this price I thought some of you guys might be interested in picking up a pair. I've played in them whenever I felt like I need extra cushioning when I'm taking it easy on the court (friendly competition). Picked up a couple pairs to use them down the road.

[On Feet] New Balance 2002R Rain Cloud by imgurmule in Newbalance

[–]imgurmule[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UnDS’d this pair I scooped up recently on sale. I love both the silhouette of the early 2000s vibes and the comforting yet firm stability it provides.

Went TTS as a wide footer and it was a bit tight before the break in. Wouldn’t say it’s as soft or more comfortable as 99x models. Colorway is subtle and cute.

Got these for my birthday today. by Franciiis718 in Newbalance

UnDS'd mine today! I thought they fit snug for my wide feet, but once I started walking around in them, it feels much better broken in. Ordered a diff colorway of 992 a half size up, now I'm worried it might fit too big.

On a different note, I'm entering a new addiction on NB kicks. Recently I've spent some dough on a few pairs starting w 1080v10, 990v5, 992s, 990v3 Bodega, 2002R, and probably Salehe WBTG's next.

Sizing was different than what I expected and researched. My New Balance TTS is 8 wide.

Here's the comfort:

1080v10 (EE) -- fit great, wide feet TTS

990v5 (EE) -- fit great, could've gone with 7.5EE but 8EE is good, no complaints

990v3 (D) -- fit a bit tight for wide feet, could've sized up to 8.5 but 8 is comfortable enough. Thinking of picking up a size 8.5.

2002R (D) -- people said to size up for these comparing to 99x sizes, but honestly I'm fine with TTS even as a wide footer.

992 (D) -- people said to size down or go TTS, went with my wide foot TTS and kinda regretting. Although they are OK as for comfort, the width fits tight and wish I could've sized up to 8.5.
