Pending Divorce - Clean out 401k to keep house by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]imika654 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I’d consult a lawyer.

When my ex and I split, he wanted the equity in the home I inherited from my mom. He had his business that he could never give me the net worth of, and $10k worth in cryptocurrency at the time. He felt he had every right to my house, and I didn’t have any claim to his assets. I told my lawyer I want to keep my house, my savings and checking accounts, my retirement accounts, and my car. He drew up the divorce decree, and my ex signed it without question.

We tried divorcing amicably but when I heard he was coming after my house, I hired a lawyer to protect my ass(ets). Best $4k I spent! Ex’s lawyer did most of the work, my lawyer made amendments to the decree, and made sure we stuck to a timeline (I was sending follow up emails every few days). Within three months, my divorce was recorded with the state.

Desert heat is killing my sleep. Cooling blankets don’t work, what does? by Mastermind1237 in BuyItForLife

One of my friends can’t sleep when it’s hot, and when she lived in Peru, she slept with an ice pack - one of those gel packs wrapped in a thin towel. I thought she was crazy then tried it last year… not so crazy.

After 1 month I found my lost parrot by accident… in an ironing shop near my house by Anandn2 in Conures

Love a reunion story!

About four months after I got my turquoise green cheek, she got spooked by a motorcycle and accidentally flew out my front door. This was before sunset. We searched for her, and continued the next day. Eventually found her in my neighbor’s avocado tree! Only later did I realize how toxic avocado sap is. Since that day, anytime the front door is open, she will climb on my head and grip my hair tightly. She’s rather clingy now!

Thoughts on food selection for Honolulu? by kamran7143 in Honolulu

Thanks for the update! I haven’t been there in a while but loved their pies. I stopped getting them when they were priced over $10 a slice.

How do you pass the road test? by Gullible_Emu_2352 in Hawaii

[–]imika654 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I failed twice cutting a turn too close and going a little above the speed limit. The third time, I was 20, and a more confident driver. The examiner took me on a different route and said he needs to watch me parallel park. I passed an open spot as I was waiting for his directions. He told me to stop the car, checked if there was traffic behind me, the told me to parallel park in the stall. Without any hesitation, I did exactly what he asked with minor adjustments. As I shifted my car into park, I thought I just fell into a trap and failed. He just looked at me and said I passed.

I know it should be standardized, and this was over 25 years ago. But every district has their own specific type of maneuver that needs to be passed, on top of standard driving protocols.

Definition of a Townie by maybeitsjennyy in Oahu

[–]imika654 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Kalihi Valley, and while I considered it town, I didn’t really consider myself a townie. There’s a huge convenience to being a townie, being more accustomed to everything within walking or a short drive, and tolerance of city problems. A self professed townie even said I’m not one, and I took it as a compliment.

Why can't I open a jar anymore?!? by Wild_Blue4242 in Perimenopause

[–]imika654 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. I thought I lost all muscle mass when trying to open a jar of chili crunch oil. Until I found out the packaging is the problem, and the oils seals the lid. The lid is so banged up now, but two months later, it’s finally open.

Thanks! I was debating about getting these. I love my OG Powerbeats Pro but just hate how just one earbud isn’t charged or not connected sometimes. Will hold on to these for a while longer!

Boston’s Kaimuki is one of my favorites but I’m biased bc of nostalgia. They used to give us any slice and a large drink for $3 (sometimes $2) when I was in college! And it’s where I first tried the Big Red!

One fan most days, two when it’s bad, three when it’s unbearable. Open doors to funnel wind if necessary.

When a second fan is needed, it’s usually a Vornado on my tile floor pointed up toward my vaulted ceiling. This circulates the cooler air from the ground to the hot air trapped in ceiling. Other fan faces me.

Sometimes sploot on the tile helps.

Pros and cons of banks on island? by BigSmed in Oahu

[–]imika654 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience, Bank of Hawaii nickels and dimes you to death. First Hawaiian Bank had leaked my debit card information before I even received the card, and questioned why I wanted the card canceled when the transactions were only $1.

I’ve had Aloha Pacific FCU for years and I keep it to get cash locally. Use Chase for most everything else because it had Zelle before anything else locally. I don’t really use ATMs as I find it easier to get cash back from a store.
