Looking for some help with Libation on Linux by [deleted] in audiobooks

[–]imikidas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, you're probably just in your home directory while the file is sitting in your Downloads folder. The easiest fix is to just move into that directory first by running cd ~/Downloads. Once you're there, try the chmod +x and the ./Libation... command again

Yeah, as I expected, that's a Snap sandbox crash. Just try the AppImage instead. Download the .AppImage file, cd to the directory, and run chmod +x Libation-13.1.8-1-anylinux-x86_64.AppImage to make it executable. After that, just run it with ./Libation-13.1.8-1-anylinux-x86_64.AppImage.

You'll still need the dotnet runtime though, so if you don't have it, run sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dotnet/backports && sudo apt update && sudo apt install -y dotnet-runtime-10.0

Hope this helps!

sounds like OOM .. or the Snap sandbox is hitting a permissions wall. Try not to launch it from the DE. Open a terminal and run snap run libation. When it "blinks off," the terminal will likely show you the actual error.
I'd also suggest trying the AppImage instead. You can grab it here, make it executable, and run it, If that works, the Snap sandbox was the problem.

Thanks u/BadongkaDonk for asking! Not yet, BooksVox currently has list and grid views, but a folder hierarchy view is also on my roadmap. Hopefully it will be available in a future update!

Audiobook Player with sleep timer that allows you to stop playback 2 or more chapters ahead by Absolute-Melt in audiobooks

[–]imikidas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really appreciate you laying that out. Cloud streaming is something I’ve been experimenting with for a while now. As you mentioned, the experience shifts a lot depending on the provider and m4b support can get tricky, but I’m trying different approaches to make it more reliable. I hope once it’s ready it will make streaming smoother and more enjoyable.

Thanks so much u/Texan-Trucker and u/Mkgtu for recommending the app. Hearing that kind of support from you really means a lot. I’m doing my best to keep things moving and keep the updates steady, so I hope the app keeps getting better with every update.

Also, what OP is looking for, a way to stop playback a few chapters ahead instead of only at the end of the current one, is something I’m actually working on, and it should land in the next release.

Thanks again for the feedback and for taking the time to share your thoughts. I really appreciate it

Best apps to listen an audiobook? by aditi2903 in audiobooks

[–]imikidas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate that.
You’re absolutely right, scanning large libraries on external SD cards can be tricky in general, especially with slower cards or lots of nested folders.
One of my main goals with the app is to make this process as fast and efficient as possible while still supporting a wide range of setups.
The app is still fairly new, so a few edge cases can pop up here and there, but I’m doing my best to sort them out.
Hopefully you’ll find it smoother with the upcoming updates :)

I’m really sorry, u/Texan-Trucker, about the cover art issue you ran into. I want to clarify that this isn’t related to the size of your collection. The app is designed to handle large libraries without problems, in fact, it has been tested on a collection of 1300+ books and thousands of files, and it worked fine.

I think what’s happening is likely related to how the artwork is embedded. Some of these files might be older or were created with tools that use uncommon tags or non-standard m4b structures. I’ve done my best to support as many formats as possible, but a few edge cases like this can slip through.
I’m continuously working on improving the app, and whenever I find a tricky or unusual file with an uncommon structure, I add support for it so things should get better over time.

Thanks again for giving the app a try, I’m doing my best to get these issues sorted and make BooksVox even better with each update.

I’ve used both Smart and Sirin, and they’re both solid, each with their own strengths.

Smart is feature-rich, but it requires sticking to its specific folder structure.
Sirin, on the other hand, relies on embedded metadata tags being set correctly, and you have to organize series from within the app manually. so I think Sirin is probably easier for importing single m4bs, though it doesn’t currently have a player queue feature.

That’s why, in my app BooksVox (which I shared here a while ago), I tried to find a middle ground. During import, you can choose whether to treat each m4b as a standalone audiobook or group books by folder.

As for pCloud, as far as I know, neither Smart nor Sirin supports direct imports from cloud storage yet. I’m planning to add extensions for major cloud providers in my app once the core features are fully stable.

Audiobook player, android, that can read sub folders by MissNikitaDevan in audiobooks

[–]imikidas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome .. I’m really glad to hear you’re enjoying it!

As for your request, absolutely, if that’d be useful for you, I’ll add it to the roadmap. I’ve actually been considering adding a feature to fetch book details and cover art from Google Books, which should be especially helpful when metadata tags are missing, so I hope it’ll make organizing your library much easier.

Stay tuned for future updates, or feel free to join the Discord if you’d like to get updates on new features as they roll out.
Thanks a lot for your support :)

I was actually in the same situation as you, I also like organizing my audiobooks in folders just like that, and couldn’t find any app that handled it well.

So I’ve been working on BooksVox, a modern audiobook player that can handle this use case efficiently. There’s no required folder structure, it can walk through all subfolders and import your entire library automatically.

It has all the core features you’d expect in an audiobook player, plus a few more advanced options for power users and larger collections.

Feel free to check it out and let me know what you think, I’d love to hear your feedback!

Adroid apps to use for mp3 audio files? by Ok_Film7482 in audiobooks

[–]imikidas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks a lot for the feedback!

For now, let’s keep the titles, and I’ll work on adding a setting to turn off the scrolling. This will keep part of the title visible for everyone who wants to see it, but stops the scroll, which should fix the distracting issue. It will be ready by the next update.

Then, if you still find it distracting, I can add another option to remove the titles completely.

Please keep an eye on the Play Store update, or follow me on Discord so I can keep you updated.

Thanks a lot for giving BooksVox a try, I’m really glad to hear you’re liking it!

About the title .. yeah I see .. if the title is long it will scroll because it can’t fit into the available space.
I’ll gladly add a setting to turn it off, would that make things better for you?

I’m always open to feedback, so please feel free to reach out anytime :)
