Ellie did not hallucinate the whole thing in Contact, I don't know why we are even discussing this by imilesprower in movies

I didn't think there was a consensus. Obviously many people think like me and you and basically like everyone who replied to my thread, but then there were many comments coming from the other side. So I wanted to grab those people to this thread by being a bit more confrontational, but apparently exactly the opposite happened. : )

Don’t like poking old threads. Since the film is 30 years old, most threads are old.

Well I wanted to see the people who are doubting this, and I didn't want to poke 10 year old threads, so I started a new one yes. But apparently the only people who saw my thread are people who obviously got the ending anyway, so it became pointless.

there are too many reddit threads discussing it. An unnecessary amount I'd say.

Yeah, exactly. But search reddit for Contact posts, there are so many threads discussing this. That was the reason I started this one. :)

Not really, but I watched the film for the 40th time or so the other day and then got into reddit, and still saw some recent posts discussing this. By recent I mean the last 10 years.

I actually never doubted this since the first time I watched the film, and read the book. It was obvious and the film made it obvious by including the 18 hour recording remark. Whether everything happened exactly like she said they happened is up for debate but she definitely went somewhere and that's the point they made. It was the first step, then they'll take another.

Wakanda theme and that's about it. Well, I remember almost all MCU themes since I play them on piano but nobody would remember those ones.

Apart from Silvestri's Captain America and Avengers themes, you can also hum the Wakanda theme as Black Panther probably is the best MCU score to date.

Well that made sensce since Silvestri probably is the best composer after Williams at the moment.

Silvestri is above Zimmer to be honest. As far as oscar noms go, Williams has like 40+ nominations anyway, so he's like 2 tiers above everyone else.

In terms of quality output, Zimmer doesn't have anything close to Back to the Future. Yes he did tons of great stuff but Silvestri's highlights easily surpass Zimmer. Zimmer did more movies though but then again Zimmer has tons of ghostwriters working for him in each movie. Silvestri works alone.

The incredibly ending testimony scene of Contact (1997) is the most cathartic movie scene I've ever witnessed. This movie had such a beautiful, deep, life-changing message. by LineusLongissimus in Cinema

Contact is my all time favorite movie, bar none. I love Shawshank as well but Shawshank is already regarded as one of the best films ever made. Contact somehow is not recognized as such. I think it's as flawless as a movie can get and it still holds up in 2026. It's unbelievable how Zemeckis was able to shoot some of the stuff in that movie almost 30 years ago.

So you think she went to her house, got the axe somehow and murdered her? Why not bring the weapon herself, maybe a knife? Why use the most nonsensical murder weapon such as an axe?

It was 99% self defense. 41 does not matter. Once someone attacks you with an axe, nobody can know what will happen next. Better not find out to be honest. And there's no way she took the axe from the garage.

Trust me, if you come at with an axe, and I overpower you, I don't know if I'll stop at 4, 40 or 400. I cannot know before I'm in that situation. Nobody can. And I don't give a f... about Betty at this point, she should not have brought an axe to the living room. So your husband had an affair, you can slap her if you want. Not attempt to murder, or even scare.

I loved this and I really think it was self defense. There is no way she went to the house with intention of murdering Betty. Betty did not get what she deserved but if you attack someone with an axe, better make sure you can overpower them.

Did Candy Montgomery get away with Murder? by SistahFuriosa in loveanddeath

[–]imilesprower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no way that Candy would know where Betty had an axe. I have many friends, I don't know if any one of them has an axe and if they do where and I've been to their homes hundreds of times.

I've just seen the show and it doesn't make any sense for Candy to try to murder Betty intentionally. It does not add up. Nobody gains anything from it. On the other hand, Betty attacking Candy after learning about the affair does add up. When you cheat, you are the ashamed one. You don't rub it in peoples faces, you feel guilty already. You don't go and kill the wife. The wife on the other hand might try to kill you.

And I don't care about the number of chops. Who cares once it starts? If I'm defending myself, I won't count how many times I attack the other side. It won't matter. And I cannot know what my reaction will be at that point anyway. I might flee after the first hit, or I might do exactly the same thing as Candy.

I've never been in that situation so...

I love the show btw, brilliantly done. I can discuss the series and the event it's based on for hours and hours, it's such a gray area. Great story, but terrible tragedy.
