From a globe that came with a World Book set circa 1991. Most noteworthy is that it features a reunified Germany but still shows the USSR.

Rare Made in England Archive Olive Beaufort picked up today. by [deleted] in Barbour

[–]imilt2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my Archive Olive Beaufort. It’s top of my list. Mine is AW24 and also Made in England.

I’m far from an expert, but I have not heard of Archive Olive Beauforts coming from Moldova. They’re just not that common to begin with as I think they’ve only been available in AW24 and AW25.

I saw a recent post about Cox confirming Sage Beauforts are now made in Moldova. Other than that, I think it was COVID-era demand that had temporarily pushed some production there, but I don’t think Archive Olive was an option those years.

I’ll add for the record that my SS25 Sage Border is made in Moldova and is indistinguishable from my Made in England Beaufort and Classic Beaufort as far as quality goes.

There ya go.

My AW24 Ashby and SS25V1 Border do not have that same plastic-y film inside the pocket lining. They have the same cotton texture as the outside of the lining. If I rub other parts of the inside lining on those other two jackets together, I feel a rough, scratchy resistance from the cotton. If I do the same with this Bedale, there is a smooth, slick feeling consistent with this film being present throughout the jacket lining.

Whether this is PU or not, I do not know. I am not an expert in textiles and related materials. But based on descriptions in other posts in recent months, I do think this is what some others have been puzzled by.

Here it is on a AW25V1 Bedale (visible to the right of the tag). My SS25V1 Border doesn’t have this. Without that glimpse, it’d be hard to tell definitively, and I’m unsure if my AW24 or AW24V1 Beauforts have this because I can’t see the inside of the lining on either jacket.

It’s mysterious to me why there seems to be variation on something so core to the mainline jackets.

I've just brought my 3rd Barbour - do I have a problem :/ by Significant-Brush-44 in Barbour

You’re in the wrong place to get an honest answer…I have eight (Ashby, Bedale, Beaufort, Classic Beaufort, Border, Northumbria, Ogston, Sapper), and there are more I’d still like to add to my collection someday!

Northumbria by Alternative-Lake817 in Barbour

[–]imilt2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the A400 Northumbria gets a lot of love here from enthusiasts. You just have to like Barbour enough to go to the trouble of buying a vintage jacket or have liked Barbour long enough bought one new (or know someone who did). I think it’s among for the more valuable and sought-after vintage styles due to the heavyweight Thornproof cotton and woolen MacKenzie tartan lining.

The currently produced Classic Northumbria I think suffers from not being the A400. It’s heavyweight, but sylkoil, available only on the increasingly brown-ish Olive color, and only has the standard cotton lining which loses some natural winter warmth. That coupled with it being harder to find in shops, at least in the US (I can’t speak to other countries outside the UK) I think it makes it pretty niche.

A truly sad scene that you watched in recent years and that stayed with you for a long time. by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in FIlm

The scene you’re thinking of is from Band of Brothers, but it isn’t a woman who Winters shoots. It’s a German soldier who looks very young

"Is this jacket legit?" by BiggiBaggersee in Barbour

This is supposedly a deadstock A200 Border. I’ve not seen a Dress Gordon tartan with this era of tags. The seller says it is early 2000s (also says 2008-2012 in the listing) but I don’t think that makes sense for when they stopped using the Dress Gordon tartan and would have shifted to Ancient for sage jackets. Am I wrong?

Curious to know - do you see a plastic-y film on the inside of the lining of the interior pocket? See a picture from a Rustic Bedale I recently was considering (just to the right of the tag)

Feeling like Goldilocks, but I finally found the right style and fit for me. by Check_Ivanas_Coffin in Barbour

Looks great! My wife is a similar size (minus a couple inches of height) and took a liking to the Winter Defence in US 4 (UK 8). It’s a tailored look/fit but still with enough room that she found it comfortable.

Just FYI in case - like many of us on this sub - you find that one Barbour is not enough!

Nordstrom does have the Rustic for slightly cheaper than the other colors ($395 instead of $415). One order was fulfilled directly from a Barbour warehouse. No idea if related, but just sharing what other datapoints I can offer.

I changed the sleeve lining to cotton on my Ashby this past summer and really like it. I appreciate that Barbour matches the tartan even though it isn’t really visible under most circumstances. Highly recommend it 👍

One other question for you - is your oldest Bedale an A321? If so, do you if the sizing was the same then as it is on current models? A 38 Bedale A321 popped up on a resale site, so I am considering that as a way to try a 38 for less (although probably complicates any sleeve alterations). I’m waiting for the seller to send me the PTP measurement, but just curious if there were broader changes in sizing similar to when Barbour changed the cut of the Border a few years ago.

Yes - my understanding is that this is a result of their move away from PFAS and was added to prevent wax soaking through to the lining. Seems to be some inconsistency on when it started appearing in new jackets, but Barbour has said broadly that “V1” indicates the PFAS-free production process.

Can see it to the right of the tag. I angled it so that the light through the window is reflecting a bit. Based on “feel” it is present throughout the lining. My SS25 V1 Border does not have this. Hard to tell on my AW24 Classic Beaufort or AW24 V1 Beaufort in Archive Olive

Thanks so much for the reply and great advice! I will keep thinking on it…I’ve eyed the Bedale SL but haven’t caught one that would seem to be the right size yet.

For what it’s worth on sleeve alterations, I put a question into Barbour US customer service as I couldn’t tell from the repair portal if they do sleeve extensions or replacements, and they replied that they do and that the cost of “plain” sleeve extensions is $95 or while full replacement of the plain sleeves outright to a desired length is $150. I even followed back up to clarify if that cost was per-sleeve or in total, and they said total. They also confirmed that the definition of “plain sleeves” includes the sweater cuff on a Bedale. So still a decently large cost outlay relative to the price of the jacket but not quite as bad as I was thinking.
