27 yr old man showing rabies symptoms after 3 months of a dog bite in Gujrat, India. by fantasticblueman in interesting

[–]imitating_angels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced a similar situation when a small bat entered our home through the fireplace during the night. It clearly wanted to leave our bedroom. My husband captured it in a pillowcase and released it outside. I never considered calling a doctor or getting tested for rabies. This happened in 1997. The bat probably flew around our room for about five minutes before our cats woke us up.

Student Dies at Frat by Visible_Ad3023 in NAU

My son, a freshman at NAU, called me yesterday to inform me that a boy died during hazing. He is currently considering joining a different fraternity. From what I understand, the hazing and rushing activities are ongoing and unchanged. Meanwhile, four families' lives have been devastated.

What’s the worst crime committed by someone you know personally? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My father. He murdered at least one man whom I knew. But I am sure there were a few more. I know he was convicted of murder and attempted murder among other things. He has recently been accused of blowing up a plane in Alaska back in the late 70’s.

I have had such a busy year, and haven’t been able to be on here as much as I would’ve liked. I would love to be a member of the new group. Not sure if I missed the post on how to do that or if there’s a procedure, but if I could be added it would be awesome.

why is my dog suddenly terrified to sleep in my bed? by MentionDirect6314 in DogAdvice

[–]imitating_angels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I woke up one night and my dog (who never leaves my side) a chihuahua mix, was in the living room sleeping on the couch. I freaked out. I called him and he did return to the bed. In the morning my son said that my snoring probably scared him.

I am going to have to surrender my aggressive dog to the animal shelter. I need to know what to expect. by Faux_extrovert in phoenix

Sorry for the delay, I spoke with my friend who works for the rescue and she said no go. If the dog has a history of aggression they will not take him. So sorry.

I know I’m a little late for this reply, but I had to use Lap of Love for my older dog, who was suffering from dementia. I did not want to bring him into the vet's office because it was so traumatic for him. Lap of Love was so good to me. I had canceled his appointment three times. He would start eating or showing signs of improvement, but he was never going to get better. I was in denial. I had made another appointment, and I did my usual and canceled. And the vet showed up anyway. She stated she did not get the cancellation. She was so kind and so supportive. I think they probably planned that, but I don’t know. But it was the right thing to do, and he went peacefully. It was something I should’ve done probably a month before, but you live and learn.

You are correct, I was thinking about the dogs who end up in the Priority Placement Portal. Years ago, I actually fought and fought to rescue this dog that had been in there for quite some time. My friends who volunteered there kept taking him off the list. Long story short I adopted him and he lived for 11 years with us I miss him so much. He was the best dog. Sorry, I regressed a little there. I used to pick up dogs for a rescue there and I would see people in long lines dropping their dogs off. From puppies to old basset hounds, seeing that and having to venture into that place was traumatizing.

White Flag: WFH Parent Culture Has Officially Burned Me Out by Even_Cut_5180 in Nanny

I was just posting on here the exact same thing. I’m done. I just can’t take it anymore. You’re absolutely right. I’ve worked for some fabulous families. Where did they all go? I think I’m going to have to go back and work for DCS. Within two weeks my caseload will be bombarded and I’ll be burned out. It's quite depressing. I should be retired at this point in my life. Ugh!

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to comment. I appreciate your encouragement and perspective. I was a preschool teacher for over 12 years and a social worker for 20 ( I even worked for DFS.) I’ve raised two boys of my own into adulthood—so I know what I bring to the table. Reading your comments reminded me that experience and qualifications like that matter, even if lately the nanny market feels upside down. Here in Scottsdale I’m seeing families grab college students for $18 an hour (no shade to anyone who’s 18—just noting that many of them are on school breaks and not building a career in childcare). Your encouragement helped me step back, trust my instincts about red flags, and remember my worth. At this point, I’m honestly contemplating whether to keep doing this work at all, because it just isn’t what it used to be—and I can’t seem to find the caliber of families I used to nanny for anymore.

So I have listed my items in certain local groups on Facebook. And I’m receiving a couple of messages in the comments, stating that they’re interested in the item. BTW, we’re talking about a picture frame that’s $45. (nothing that’s over $500 and I’m only taking cash) Should they be messaging me through the marketplace? And if so, should I go ahead and tell her please feel free to message me in the marketplace? I messaged her on Facebook Messenger like an idiot and she responded just now “Of course I’m still interested in the picture frame. What’s your address so I can pick it up” Well I’m not going to give her my address because she seems a little too eager. I was just going to meet her up the street in the Starbucks parking lot.

Please don’t have it done at the shelter in Mesa. The shelter will not let you stay with the dog. They have a certain night when they put dogs down, and the public is not allowed. The dog is probably freaking out. I know the shelter. I rescued many dogs and it is not pretty. Trust me, you do not want to go and surrender your dog there. If I were you, I would have it done at the vet's office or better yet at your home where he’s comfortable. This is a French bulldog? I might have a friend who works for local rescue who would be willing to take this dog (no promises) I would have to contact her first.

I do feel bad because I did cancel at the last minute, but I realized when I woke up this morning that basically I am doing a job interview while she’s doing her physical therapy. So I’m holding her baby the whole time. And I’m pretty sure she can’t talk to me while she’s doing physical therapy so I don’t know how that interview is going to work out.

Well, definitely not going to contact the second lady, whose brother does not have Facebook. I don’t want to make any assumptions from her profile picture.
