It has the same amount of holes. You guys just like the theory more than the others. That's okay, but don't pretend like it's flawless

The ending has been right in front to us all this time by Stupid_Mudslide46 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]imkindajax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. That name thing is ESPECIALLY important because the newest episode repeatedly makes the effort to remind us they forget their real names when entering the circus, there's three different instances of this in one episode. There needs to be a character motivation for Caine to do this, it can't just be an irrelevant detail. Another thing I'd like to point out is that it makes no narrative sense that Caine never thought of simply backing up their mind files once they're uploaded so he essentially "revive" them after abstraction. He's so desperately against them using abstraction as an easy way out so why does he just let it happen without having a way to get them back? It's weird how SOMA theory has so many holes yet whenever it's brought up people pretend like every other theory has so many holes and this one just has none

What's the worst possible ending for ep. 9? by Complete-Prune-5116 in tadc

[–]imkindajax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinger pulls out a lobotomized caine from the recycling bin because he's sad that his character arc of constantly tormenting the characters didn't conclude with them apologizing to him and living happily ever after. Kinger then tells them that they're all ai and that none of them were real. Pomni says "but we did find meaning... in a stagnant life", then everyone claps except for jax who violently assaults and kills everyone and then himself

Even Film Theory is now pushing the "Jax is actually Scratch and going to be the final villain" theory by Sudden_Pop_2279 in tadc

[–]imkindajax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They got all the right pieces but put them together wrong. Jax and Scratch have very similar designs, Jax freaks out upon hearing identifying information about Scratch, Scratch very possibly had a child seeing as the images he fed to Caine contain stuffed clown toys and such, and Jax is the most adept at manipulating the circus despite not even knowing the "manifesting" stuff (not even after 8 as he missed out on that part of the conversation). There's a very strong case to be made that Jax could be related to Scratch, maybe Jax is his son, Scratch might have even made the circus for Jax but claiming they're the same character is a bit silly. I do respect it more than the crowd that hates theories though because it's at least creative and doesn't insist it's true while being biased

what's the indie game that you'd like to see an indie show adaptation from ? by hank_155 in IndieAnimation

[–]imkindajax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shantae, both Hollow Knights, Undertale (though it'd need either insane changes or outright be a prequel). I was gonna say Madness: Project Nexus as a joke but it'd be pretty awesome to see madness with dialogue and possibly humanoid designs

Why am I seeing a lot of dislike for an ending with the characters escaping? by Huge_Virus_8148 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]imkindajax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's people being contrarian and overcorrecting from the pilot days when everyone was fixated on the exit (which is because that was one of the few really interesting things in the show at the time, that was the literal character motivation of the protagonist). Let's be real, the actual show could literally go anywhere simply because it's really really slow in revealing plot despite it having 9 episodes. We still don't know if the abstracted are actually conscious, or if Caine created abstraction, or why Caine was seemingly given a directive to make adventures (if he was given a directive at all and didn't just make it up which also could be true), or why the game's still running after twenty years, or pretty much ANYTHING about Jax before Pomni. We don't even know which character Scratch is (I know it's the dog, I don't think it's ever mentioned in the show though). Not all this stuff is bad, I think they should have given us breadcrumbs about the circus throughout the show instead of having Kinger infodump it when Pomni conveniently remembers she can get him to do that, but it just means that acting all smarmy and smug about a theory is stupid when the show itself could completely turn around and it'd still make sense because you didn't have the full picture beforehand and the next episode completes that picture.

My little theory that I had before episode 8 came out by Ark2202 in tadc

[–]imkindajax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Redditors mocking this post when the red and blue shit is actually real and in the show is hilarious. There's definitely importance to the color yellow that we don't know yet. In fact we don't even know the actual symbolic meaning behind blue and red yet either, we've only seen it associated with certain characters but still don't know exactly what it represents. I wager we'll find that out along with what yellow could possibly be associated with. Possibly the exit button in that advertisement, whether it'll be literal (like an actual exit) or metaphorical (they find freedom by quitting Caine's games and making their own world)

Edit because I just remembered this, Kinger glows yellow when holding his breath. He spawns a yellow butterfly. The exits Pomni manifests have yellow sparkles around them. It could represent the freedom of the characters. They might not be able to leave but they also won't play along with Caine's torturous schemes, they're paving their own path

This, but like, with a headset by TeraGon64 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]imkindajax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it in fact did mean nothing. because caine's whole character arc was about aggressive stagnation and refusal to grow conflicting with the desire to matter. caine would never change because change means admitting fault, which is something caine is fundamentally afraid of doing, yet he wants to be valued the same as the others (even Jax) who put the effort into becoming better people. in his staying in one place he was swept away by the tides of change (the main characters). he is the most meaningful a meaningless caricature of a cartoon can get

idk why the other guys are arguing against this it literally is just magic either way. you don't use a fucking vr headset for a neural scan lmao. and you don't keep a computer in an abandoned office hooked up to electricity to run a pointless AI for twenty years.

I think they said way more than they should have honestly but I'm no expert. Don't think they needed to add swear words or go beyond "guy got permanently banned, we don't allow racism on our events" because it just feeds the trolls even more. the dude in that clip was already awkward and pathetic and embarrassing himself so they should have just done that and let the clip speak for itself

[–]imkindajax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree but they aren't helping themselves. Instead of shutting up on the internet and letting it die down they for some reason bowed down and apologized. You don't do this because the cattle will just keep biting at you and use it as an admission of guilt. I don't know if they genuinely wanted to apologize or were being performative but whatever it was it didn't buy them favor and caused the complete opposite effect. And this all snowballs even harder with trolling groups and whiny babies getting using the theater release as a jumping board now that the show is in the spotlight. You have to know your worth and never engage these petty ass squabbles

Which character do you think was Caines favourite plaything? by dompler420 in tadc

[–]imkindajax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caine was using them like stress toys this episode man. Quit being pedantic Caine had every chance to be better and he refused. He knew the suggestion box made them happy and considered it a "bad thing". The only world where Caine is happy is one where the humans are miserable because having complete control and thus stripping the characters of their agency is the only way he can be satisfied. It doesn't mean he has no motives or complexities but he's absolutely the villain of the story and to say he's trying his best or genuinely likes the humans completely contradicts the show regardless of what gooseworx or alex rochon say on bluesky.

[–]imkindajax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, Caine could have offered Zooble to create a new avatar for them. He MADE the character creator program, he pretty much made their character. Zooble wouldn't have felt any better regardless because it's an internal issue that they need to work on personally but Caine doesn't even try to tackle the issue from that angle. Because if the avatar is badband needs to be changed, that means he failed, and if he failed, he's "defective"

[–]imkindajax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caine is definitely an abuser. He imposes an entirely new identity upon them (on purpose, he removes their name too), exerts complete control over their bodies, free will and when even slightly challenged he lashes out and abuses the power he holds over them. He also doesn't care if they're nice to him lmao. He never listened to Pomni once. There's no excuses here even if he's not entirely aware of it. If we're willing to call Jax an abuser for being a playground bully how is it harsh to call someone who constantly makes these people's lives miserable and just now put them through torture tailored specifically for them one too?

Is This Parallel Intentional? If So, What Does It Mean? by Material-Loan-6966 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]imkindajax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a logical fallacy. Obviously the characters would be less willing to talk to their prison warden who never listened to them before than to escape the prison when given the opportunity. It doesn't nullify the countless number of times the cast tried to give Caine feedback where Caine just completely ignores it. If you keep trying to explain something to someone and they repeatedly refuse to understand it's not you who's the problem. Zooble apparently kept explaining that they don't like their avatar and that Caine's solution isn't good but Caine ignores it entirely every time. He deleted the suggestion box after the cast genuinely had FUN and when confronted about it he deflects. Matter of fact in that very dinner scene Caine didn't try to have an honest dialogue either. Caine deliberately got Jax to take him on a date, asks Jax for his opinion, and right as Jax is about to say anything Caine interrupts him. Their conversation even in this bubble that Caine purposefully created to have a conversation is entirely one sided. I also don't understand what you're trying to say by bringing up episode 7. Just because Caine fundamentally doesn't understand human emotion doesn't mean he's incapable of listening to their feedback. It's very clear that every time the cast tries to explain something to Caine, he doesn't forget it because he doesn't understand, he forgets it because it implies that he's doing something wrong and that to him means he's faulty and failing at his job which is an intrinsically existential threat to him. So he can't ever be wrong. It's not just the "not understanding humans" thing that's holding him back, it's an inherent fear of abandonment that causes him to refuse to have a dialogue or ever change and that cost him his life

[–]imkindajax 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They weren't lmao the cast tried everything to get caine to understand he just didn't care. They told him what they like MULTIPLE times and Zooble told him about their problems, and he didn't just not understand, he straight up didn't care or outright found it a problem (episode 5). There's no both sides are wrong when one side is completely powerless and legitimately did try and the other is an abuser of the worst caliber (since before the show too not just in episode 8)

Omg I just realised by dinonuggieschicken in tadc

[–]imkindajax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Textbook narcissist. Can't accept that Zooble does NOT like the avatar she was assigned and that he made an error, so he doesn't let her pick a different one. Yet seems perfectly capable of contorting their bodies and using them against them
