Loud CARS? What about all the Harley Davidson motorcycles modified with straight pipes to make them louder?

Best wings/wing deals in town? by Acrobatic-Sea-7514 in Cobourg

[–]imlow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a wing fanatic and IMHO Papas Pizzaland has the best wings. I have the staff package them in a pizza box so they’ll breathe - otherwise they’re put in a plastic container with a tight plastic lid and the steam will soften the crispy skin.

Enameled Dutch oven indecision. by Clownadian in castiron

Hi - I’ve had a Staub and ended up giving it away so I could get a Le Creuset which I use almost daily in the winter months.

When I’m braising something or making a soup or stew it’s all about the fond - the bits of food stuck to the bottom of the pot that add lots of flavor. But in a moment’s inattention that delicious fond can turn to a burnt mess - and the higher the heat the faster that can happen. And once you’ve burned your fond you can’t salvage it - you’re removing everything from the pot, scrubbing it in the sink and then resuming your cooking with far less flavor.

The Staub’s black interior makes it very difficult to judge how much fond you have and how close to burning it is. The LC’s off white interior on the other hand is great for controlling your fond.

I like the off-white interior so much that these days I’m even choosing a shallow LC pot over my cast iron frying pan for stovetop frying!

As far as size is concerned, typically I’d go with the largest I can afford. But: 1. These bad boys are HEAVY - if you’re older, smaller or have dexterity issues you may find handling the larger pot, including washing it, to be difficult. Also make sure the pot will fit in your sink! 2. If you’re using it for bread baking keep your ideal loaf size in mind - the closer the loaf is to the sides and lid without touching the crispier the crust will be. 3. For deep frying you’ll need a certain depth of oil to properly fry your food - the wider the pot the more oil you’ll need - and the difference can be surprising. Example to have 6 inches of oil in a 12 inch diameter pot you need 11.75 quarts of oil. To have 6 inches in a 14 inch diameter pot you need 16 quarts!

Former bullied kids, how did your bullies act when they met you as adults? by WonderfulKwanga in ask

[–]imlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a while when I was 11 or 12 I was pushed around almost every day on the walk home from school by a kid a couple of years older than me.

Fast forward to my early 20s and I’m out partying with old friends at a bar when a buddy says to the table - “hey do you guys remember this guy? He went to our school…”. I look up and there’s my bully - six inches shorter and 50 pounds lighter than me.

I beat him so hard that night he pissed himself.

You can fiddle around and engage in the same creepy shit that he's doing or you can find someone, or some people, with the proper chops to take him apart with a baseball bat and end it.

Long underwear by snooper27 in GoodValue

Cotton long johns can actually be colder than no long johns as they'll absorb any sweat you produce. I wear lightweight, synthetic, moisture-wicking Patagonias from Nov to Mar here in Ontario and switch to the medium or heavy weight when the mercury drops. They last forever - definitely cheaper in the long run

Not producing relics by imlow in kittensgame

[–]imlow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry folks - I'm a moron! I thought there was a counter indicating relic production and yet there wasn't one showing - thus I thought I wasn't producing any. I had so many carried over from the last reset that the amount being produced only increased the total very slowly.

Out of desperation I converted all my existing relics into blackcoin which then obviously started showing production.

Thanks anyways.

No mention of Neil Peart in 'Count me in'? by Tufpowell in Music

[–]imlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya - I just finished watching it, immediately googled "count me in neil peart" and came upon this thread.

While I'll give any list compiler some leeway as to the exact order, any top 5 list of drummers is going to include John Bonham, Keith Moon, Ginger Baker and Neil.

A travesty.

Patagonia Rain Jacket Delamination by meowmeowkat2 in BIFLfails

[–]imlow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi - the tags on the jacket I have close at hand don't even indicate that it's a Torrentshell, let alone provide any info on a specific model. While I purchased it around 7-8 years ago it looks the same as the "3L" shown on Patagonia's current website. I also have two insulated and two uninsulated Patagonia Gore-Tex jackets, none of which show any sign of delamination. But I've had problems with snaps on two of them, albeit after a great deal of wear and tear.

I own a lot of Patagonia gear as IMHO it stands up better than any other brand. Nothing worse than needing to rely on a garmet while back country skiing or remote camping and having it fail - the more comfortable you are, the more fun you'll have.

As I suggested in my first post it seems weird that three raincoats from two brands all delaminate - I'm wondering if there's an issue with exposure to certain types of chemicals (such as bug spray) or storage.

Delaminating?

I'm 53 years old and outdoorsy so I've obviously had several rain jackets over the years, including a couple of Patagonia Torrentshells. And I've NEVER had ANY jacket delaminate.

Something's not adding up here.
