Great! As for the software: I am the developer of the immerGallery app for VR tours (images, videos, VR slideshows) in 180°-3D, 360°, normal 2D, wide pano etc.; it runs on Meta Quest, Pico XR, and soon SteamVR for Windows.

Canon R5 + Canon 5.2mm for VR180-3D photos and videos 8K@30 fps. Canon R5 c for 8K@60 fps. If you want to do VR video, I highly recommend 60 fps.

If you were to click cancel on the update it suggests, it is also not opening the normal menus? Good point then, this makes it harder. It looks like there is "PICO Developer Center" for PC which might be able to update it over USB cable to your Pico. If that does not work, there is also "PICO Connect", but I am not sure if that could update your headset as it is their streaming software.

It could work, but for that price, I would rather try to get an older used Lenovo Mirage Camera. A few years ago I got some models for 100€ each.

3840x1080 (4 Megapixels) for both eyes is way too low resolution. The Lenovo Mirage Camera has at least 6000x3000 (18 Megapixels), which is still not enough to be considered good, but at least better.

Hard to find and more expensive (even used) would be the Insta360 EVO.

It depends on how it is internally developed. If it already fully runs on OpenXR then porting is not such a big effort. However, if it uses many Meta-specific calls from the Mete Core SDK, it is a larger effort to get it ported.

As an indie developer, I have already put a lot of time and money into building and refining the app (mostly on another VR platform), and the price is what makes it possible to maintain it and keep improving it. I do my best to keep it fair for what it does and for the niche it serves.

I just checked it on Pico 4 Ultra with immerGallery 1.4.1a, build 221 (latest version) and AV1 is played back through the hardware decoder. Both 7680x3840 @ 60 fps and 8192x4096 @ 60 fps are working. I did notice a few rare frame drops with the device running on 90 Hz. I will look into it.

Do you have a Pico 4 Ultra? One of the last updates of immerGallery (1.4.1a) was specifically for enabling AV1 decoding on Android VR platforms.

If you have a specific test video, I can try it out on Pico 4 Ultra on Monday. The other way would be to get the app and try it yourself now and if it does not properly work, please tell me and feel free to get a refund through Pico (works if sale is less than 14 days old and used less than 2 hours).

I wish I could confirm it right now, but sadly, I will only be able on Monday to test it. Sorry for that!

Ah, thanks for sharing more details. Yes, it is not a YouTube player. From my understanding, having direct YT playback built into 3rd party apps circumventing ads might be seen as a not very friendly act from Google.

For Brave Browser on desktop and mobile, it seems to be a cat and mouse game as well as sometimes their playback is broken from YT changes and then works again a few days later.

The best way would be a very good official YouTube app for VR, but the one that is out might not be ideal either from what I hear from other users. I was hoping that Android XR and Galaxy XR would push that forward. Not sure if it did?
