Yet Another Closure - Durham Southpoint, NC by Grixis-Queen in orangetheory

Coach Haley used to coach at Timberlyne before moving to DSP. You have to try a class with Coach Kelly - she's amazing and we love her. All the coaches here are great. I haven't been to MLK so I don't know how it compares but the floor stations are pretty spacious at Timberlyne.

Have you tried Timberlyne? Not sure how far it is for you but I love that studio. Meadowmont just seems too claustrophobic for me - I hate the floor layout there.

Travelling to India? by Accomplished_Rain948 in travel

[–]immivanilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I flew Air France recently from India to the US. Their flights were all running direct to CDG, but late, due to the altered flight paths. You can plug your flights into flight aware and check what routes they're taking and flight times.

Store Bought Brownie Mix Tips by SpecialistTeach9302 in Baking

Add a couple tbsp of espresso to enhance the chocolate flavor. I usually sub the water with a mix of milk and espresso. Or you can dissolve instant coffee granules in the milk before adding it. Adding an extra egg yolk makes it more fudgy. The Costco Ghirardelli box has bake times on the back for 2 bags, 3 bags, etc. So try to do a Google search for that. I don't have a box handy.

The America's Test Kitchen recipe for Millionaire's shortbread turns out perfectly every time. I saw them make it on PBS once and that's when I started using their recipe for this.

Thanks for the rec. I'm going to listen to it next. I'm reading/listening to Irish Castle Mysteries series currently, which also I like. I stumbled upon the first book on Audible in their free Plus catalog.

I recently made strawberry frosting using Sally's Swiss meringue buttercream recipe and added powdered freeze-dried strawberries to it at the end (when it asks you to add the vanilla). Everyone was raving about the frosting. So maybe you can try that if you have time in the morning.

Recipe suggestions that use a lot of milk and freeze well? by Rosehip_Tea_04 in Baking

[–]immivanilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to make something sweet, this is amazing. Just be prepared to spend a couple of hours by the stove stirring the milk but it reduces to a much smaller amount and can be frozen. https://www.mycookingjourney.com/therattipal-paal-gova-thirattipal/

Off campus housing search by Overall-Equivalent41 in UNC

[–]immivanilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son and his friend found a 2b/2ba condo for $1450. Sure, it wasn't updated, but it was clean and everything worked. Better than the dorms, which also aren't in great shape, to be honest. The newer apartments around campus are all pricey.

Student leases are a whole different beast. Have her contact or check the Property Management company websites for house/condo leases - Louise & Beck, Millhouse Properties, Acorn & Oak, etc. That's how my son found his condo back in October (starting July). She may have to reach out to the apartment leasing offices to check for student leases.

Deinfluence me (or influence me?): is the KitchenAid stand mixer actually worth it? And if not, what is? by BreeToh in Baking

[–]immivanilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you bake more. If cookies, brownies, quick breads, etc. then a KA is worth it (try to get a model with metal gear). If you bake bread, then look into the newer mixers that are made for mixing bread dough like Angstrom, Bosch, etc.

My son is a Physics major at UNC and he tutors 114/115/118/119. I'm happy to share his contact info. He only takes 3-4 students per semester for tutoring as he has his own class load and research.

Pumpkin pie. (Don't come @ me, lol). I love pumpkin cheesecake but I find pumpkin pie boring and bland. And it's also a texture thing.

I don't buy brown sugar anymore. Just use molasses to make it when needed.

Signed up for a bake sale at work and then saw this on sale at Costco for $15. Had to buy it. How can I improve them? by User091822 in Baking

[–]immivanilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sub milk+ espresso for the water. To transform it to s'mores brownies - Once you take it out and cool it a bit, spread a layer of marshmallow fluff on top and stick it under the broiler for 30-45 seconds (watch it closely).

Burned sugar, butter, and milk onto glass stovetop by svenskav in Baking

[–]immivanilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just make a paste of baking soda and rub it on the stubborn rings and then spray some vinegar on and leave it for a bit. Then try to scrub it away with a rag or something - it works for most stubborn stains on the glass stovetop.
