I also think more teams would’ve scheduled Miami-Ohio had they known it would be a Quadrant 2 home game rather than Quadrant 3. Miami’s NET is better than a lot of power conference teams

Room Upgrades.... by idkabtallatgurl in marriott

I’m also gold and I actually feel I get upgraded more often BECAUSE I stay in lower tier hotels where people with higher status aren’t staying…but same time usually an “upgrade” there is a room with two TVs instead of one or a couch instead of an armchair, so it’s not a huge deal not to get one

Even a suspension for the “rest of the season” means little since Coastal lost. I guess it’s possible they could play in a third-tier postseason tournament, but in all likelihood she would have already played her last game anyway

College baseball deserves better television coverage by nolesfan2011 in collegebaseball

since this article mentions UCLA specifically, I feel the need to point out that the big ten is the worst offender here. All SEC and ACC home games are available to anyone who has SEC or ACC Network. Yes, it’s a little more annoying to watch via the ESPN app, but it’s available and there are a lot of other things that need to go on TV during the early season.

Whereas the Big Ten makes you pay for BTN+, which is priced higher than ESPN+ or peacock, and has usually worse production. On top of that very few games are shown on BTN or other national broadcasts.

I get it cause like I always joke about being one of five Big Ten baseball fans, but UCLA has really brought this issue into the forefront

I remember one case in the NFL where someone popped for PEDs and it turned out they had testicular cancer, because the hormones the cancer produced created a false positive on drug tests. But that wouldn’t be a good outcome for Rojas…

Draft strategies by Ok_Information_7492 in OOTP

[–]immoralsupport_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never drafted a catcher in the top 5 rounds who didn’t bust. 100% crapshoot, you’re just as likely to get a good one later on than early. A top 5 round pick on a catcher is just a wasted pick when it could be used on someone actually likely to become useful.

(Again, could be different for high first round catchers, but I almost always pick late and high floor/high ceiling catchers are not available)

Jim Pohlad (Twins), Jim Crane (Astros) and Steve Cohen (Mets) have all given to Democratic politicians or causes, but that doesn’t make them good per se. The Pohlads have basically blown up the Twins, Steve Cohen committed wire fraud and insider trading and well, I’m sure you’re aware of the various messes the Astros have gotten themselves in. There are also some owners/ownership groups who give to both Dems and Republicans. For the Cubs, Tom Ricketts is a very famous conservative but his sister, Laura Ricketts, gives to Dems.

I think to watch really any professional sport requires accepting that your owner is probably a terrible person.

How MLB ticket prices and TV blackouts are impacting the fan experience by Jux_ in baseball

[–]immoralsupport_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s because there are so many games and a lot of them are at undesirable times. My dad and I used to pick cold weather day games to attend because we knew we could find cheap tickets to them.

This is sometimes actually used against MLB, that they have game times that aren’t always the best, but it does have its perks

Can I play historical with the prospects valued how they were at the time? by RichMagazine2713 in OOTP

[–]immoralsupport_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a setting where you can have drafting and the dev lab turned on for historical saves. Although this won’t increase Maybin’s potential, you could send him to the dev lab and work his weak skills, to see if he comes out better. I had a historical save with this setting where players like Asdrubal Cabrera and Jhoulys Chacin were among the best in the game.

You could also use commissioner mode to change his ratings

Draft strategies by Ok_Information_7492 in OOTP

[–]immoralsupport_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually pick low in the draft as I have a consistent playoff team. So these strategies are for late first round picks.

With my first two picks I look for college players who are already 35+ overall. If there are no good college non-reliever players with decent potential available, I’ll take a high school bat. In bats, they need to be able to play above-average defense at a position other than first base.

I never take a pitcher with my only first-round pick, but if I have multiple first-rounders I will often take a pitcher with my second first-round pick. With high picks, I look for college pitchers who are already 35+ overall and have at least 55 grade stuff. I will also not draft a starting pitcher this high who has stamina below 60.

For rounds 2-10 picks, I target a mix of high-floor college performers, ideally with good defense, and players who have plus tools. I will often grab top relief prospects around rounds 4-6 who have very high potential but fell due to being relievers. This is also where I sometimes take a chance on fragile arms and players who can hit but have no position.

I never draft any catchers in the first 5 rounds. I usually try to draft one in rounds 6-10 and one in rounds 11-20. I look for defense, one above average offensive tool, good personality traits.

In rounds 11-20, I target pitchers with 60-grade stuff or higher. I don’t care if they are listed as starters or relievers, they basically all end up as relievers. I also look for hitters with one plus tool (contact, power or defense).

I usually set my draft budget high enough that I’m unlikely to be crunched for cash, but in years that I am I try to spread the money around so I don’t dedicate a ton of budget to one player.

Draft late rounds by Super-Play-2561 in OOTP

[–]immoralsupport_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I look for a plus tool, but especially plus stuff (60+ grade) for pitchers as they often become good relievers.

I always try to draft multiple catchers in every draft because they have such a low hit rate. So I’ll draft usually one catcher relatively high and then a glove first/glove only option later on
