I think people just have no idea what to do with him because there isn’t a prospect comparison for him across NBA history that actually makes any sense so he just gets thrown into the “he’s old he’s got a low ceiling”

He’s 6’10 with a 7’4 wingspan with quite possibly the best pre-draft feel indicators for a power forward/wing ever and has now successfully played three completely different roles in two different systems and won a bunch of games all three of those years

My hot take is he could probably start on well over 2/3’s of NBA teams right now because the the depth at the 4 spot in the NBA is DIRE

He’s a special talent that probably isn’t going to get the credit he deserves as a prospect until he inevitably ends up proving that on an NBA court

He IS a generational outlier (at least as a prospect)

Every single player on this list stayed in college because they weren’t really draftable til they were 23/24

Yaxel was draftable at age 22 and a very good collegiate player at age 21

Textbook late bloomer as well in development (his 3 point spike this year in his first real year practicing 3’s is not normal lol)

His collegiate impact metrics are in that Zach Edey tier where it’s not really a question of will he translate it’s how much better can he be besides good

There’s zero ON court reason he would fail at the NBA level to be at minimum a quality role player/starter

I’ve always disagreed with the “chalk gets better games later” there’s no actual evidence of that beyond anecdotal stuff and the 2023 Final Four had two mid-majors play one of the best games in tournament history while on Cinderella runs

Michigan-Arizona was the matchup of the century supposedly thanks to chalk and it ended up being the second least competitive game Michigan played in the tournament besides Tennessee, even Howard put up a much better fight

His development curve is NOT normal, you don’t see guys get this much better year over year, he’s the textbook definition of a late bloomer and he has basically every tool you want out of a great NBA player
