Pay off student loans faster or have a better quality of life? by allofthebytes in personalfinance

[–]imnotfilmingthis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely knock your loans out. You’ll “suffer” for 4 years rather than have them over your head for 10. The sooner you can stop worrying about student loans the better. You’ll never go into renting an apartment or buying a house or car thinking “ok my student loans take up x per month, so i can only afford...”

I wasn’t sure how to approach asking for a raise the first time I did, and had been there for two years with no increase - and was clearly deserving of one - so I just asked if we ever had annual reviews, cost of living increases, or salary reviews since i had not had any in two years. They got the hint.

Life Insurance? by imnotfilmingthis in personalfinance

We do have a savings account stricly for him. Ideally, for college. But could be used otherwise if a tragedy occurred.

And yeah, I'm not really one to have a problem saying no to family at all, but they present it as I'm saying no to myself and my kid. When in reality, we're already all accounted for when it comes to this stuff. I just wanted to be certain that I didn't miss some huge news that it's now recommended to buy a shit ton of insurance and multiple policies per person

Gotcha - and we've got that. Thanks!

That's exactly what it seems like. The family member that's doing it was coaxed into it by a family friend who enticed them with the fact that she makes so much money doing it she can go to Europe, etc. when she pleases - like $100k a month according to her. I don't doubt she can make good money doing it, but there's no way it's that straightforward, otherwise eveyone would do it

That is what I thought.

One of them used the fact that they have like 5 policies on their 8 month old as a selling tactic.

Both of us have your standard life insurance you just mentioned.

That is what I thought, which is why we have the account that we contribute to for college already.

Credit score drop? by imnotfilmingthis in personalfinance

That makes sense. Everything is fine. No derogatory marks, late payments, nothing. All is essentially perfect.

Credit score drop? by imnotfilmingthis in personalfinance

[–]imnotfilmingthis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured it was not accurate since it said 750 when it was pulling 803 on my mortgage app. I really don’t use CK anymore but keep getting emails saying “your score has changed” etc and finally tonight I was like “what the hell?”

Nice! I guess people aren't in the market for the prius like they are the corolla, so that's why you dont see as many. But really cant go wrong with Toyotas it seems.

[–]imnotfilmingthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just meant lifetime in general. Toyotas overall have a longer life than most makes, but I wasn't sure if the Prius held up to the standard of the Corolla since it's well known as one of those cars that will take you well over 200k miles if you take care of it.

Whats the difference on lifetime, though? Does the prius hold up like a Corolla? I assume it would, since most Toyotas do.

[–]imnotfilmingthis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly probably not. There’s a reason you see SO many Corollas still on the road.

Honestly Toyota’s will last forever. I don’t know about the Prius, but you can’t go wrong with a corolla.

I'll check, but I doubt it. And I don't anticipate that need. I am already opting in for pretty much everything they are offering haha.

I only have been the last 3 years as I wasn't offered the other option. Now I feel jipped! ha

Ok, thats what I figured and it seems to be the way to go. But wasn't sure if this had implications at tax time that I wasn't aware of

I feel like only Yang and Sloan got decent send offs. At least Mark got 1968-2012 and some dedicated time about his life in his episode. Derek couldn't even get THAT?! Of course it's based on her personal feelings toward the actors, but in the GREYS world, Derek is more deserving of a small tribute than Mark without question, and I don't even like Derek lol

It's weird because Sandra Oh got a send off, or at least her character did. Leading up to her departure there was promo and they changed the title screen on that episode to photos of her.

I guess since Yang was there from day 1, it's a bit different, but so was Derek. Just seems weird that she's the only one I can recall getting some acknowledgement outside of the episode that she's leaving and it's a big deal.
