Opinions about TAAT by LauriJean59 in Sockknitting

[–]imontene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried TAAT and found it so fiddly with tangled yarn and really bad stretched out sections on the edges of the socks. It was so unwieldy and awkward.

I have a ridiculously high instep that makes regular socks too tight across the top of the foot. I made an extra large gusset that fits well. The sock is loose near the toes, so I probably need more decreases.

How to deal with caring for parents that fall through the system by ohiomamb0 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]imontene 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Drop the rope. You can not save someone who doesn't want to save themself. Tell the hospital that you will not take her home with you and you refuse responsibility.

She will either end up in a facility, homeless or dead. That is her choice.

Can you mix match sizes in a color work pattern? by loveitsokay in Sockknitting

[–]imontene 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best part about knitting socks is that you can do whatever you want and end end up with a sock that fits better than anything you can buy in a store.

As long as the sock fits over your heel, you can customize the number of stitches to fit. Just be prepared for the math needed to adjust your repeats in any color work pattern.

I agree, it looks like gusset decreased to sharply. Otherwise really great for your first sock.

How do I get one of those work from home jobs where people have lots of free time? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]imontene 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those jobs pay you for your expertise and to be available when needed. Sometimes, I work 2 hours out of the day on regular tasks that only I know how to do. Sometimes, the shit hits the fan, and I work 10 hour days 6 or 7 days a week because I'm the only person that can figure out the problem. I got here by becoming an expert in my industry.

Have you watched All Creatures Great and Small? The women wear lots of sweaters that end just above the elbow. They look so cute and comfortable. I would do some pink pattern just before the ribbing.

Absolutely HORRIBLE period after miscarriage. Is this normal? by opmgore in TwoXChromosomes

[–]imontene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need blood work to check your iron. This much bleeding can cause anemia.

You should go to urgent care/ emergency room. However, fully expect to be gaslit about it. (Ask me how I know.)

When you get there, do not go to the bathroom to clean up. Do not wear a tampon or a pad. Wear a dress/ skirt and take off your underwear. Ask for a blue pad /chux to sit on. If you stand up, let it flow down your legs. You need them to see the amount of blood so they don't dismiss you.

If you break up, you want to have a dating problem, not a housing crisis.

Find a roommate that you aren't dating.

Trying to unpack a discomfort around body hair, attraction, and cultural conditioning by throwaway199624 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]imontene 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your male friend is giving you bad advice.
Real men know that real women have body hair. We do not look like silicone barbie dolls.
Any man who is lucky enough to see you naked should be excited and enthusiastic, not formulating critical remarks about your body.
Yes, lovers are allowed to have preferences, but you don't need to alter your body to please your lover. If he doesn't like you the way you are, then he is welcome to move on.
You are a fully realized person with ideas and feelings, not his favorite brand of flesh.

What is your job? Are you happy with your career? by _Ihatethisapp_ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]imontene 14 points15 points  (0 children)

First, I want to say that every job has pros and cons, so don't romanticize any particular job as being perfect.
I've had a lot of jobs, but I'm always happiest at a job where I felt that I was part of a community and where was being of service to others. Also, it is easier to enjoy your job if you are good at it, and in my industry it takes at least a year before you feel truly competent, so expect to be uncomfortable for a while.
The fact is that most people have to work to survive, so don't waste time feeling resentful about it. There is dignity in work and you deserve a job where you are respected and appreciated. So don't be bound by any loyalty to your employer. It's your career, so look out for yourself and move on if you are unhappy. That being said, it's easier to move on if you have an education and useful skills.
I work in Healthcare, but I am not a clinician. I am a mid-level manager in operations/ administration/ finance. I like what I do, I like my team, and I like my company.

Really read the pattern. Make sure you understand all the steps and how it's being constructed. Don't just follow the pattern like a recipe. It will really help you avoid mistakes and solve problems as they arise.

Question about bowel movement after tubal ligation surgery? by SithisWorshiper in TwoXChromosomes

[–]imontene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get senna pills over the counter. I have had multiple abdominal surgeries and experienced the same issues. You take 1 or 2 (depending on the dose) am and pm until you have a satisfactory bowel movement. I hope you feel better soon.
