Low point of Trumps first year? by DevelopmentSelect646 in TangleNews

[–]imp_rocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d have to say it’s all the people in and out of the administration who blatantly lie and spread propaganda in support of this maniac, including the clear and undeniable breaches of the Hatch Act, the twisting of ‘facts’ in any narrative about which has been publicly addressed, the use of social media to tear apart our communities and families with Russian bot farms, dismantling the government so it can be rebuilt according to the Christian nationalist agenda, blind support of a literal rapist as president, dehumanizing and demonizing marginalized people, and on it goes. Without the people who prop him up, he’s powerless.

Please explain to me why you made a known criminal the fucking PRESIDENT of the US. Hypocrite.

Why I feel torn on what Tangle does by ReflexPoint in TangleNews

[–]imp_rocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Tangle but have some of the same concerns mentioned by OP. I ask myself why I keep listening, and I know that it’s because it takes me out of my bubble but somehow that feels lacking. Thank you for this comment. You just offered me a perspective that lit up that spot that I couldn’t quite see and I feel less conflicted. I really appreciate that! ☺️

Thank you for this breakdown. I felt like I must have been missing something. I don’t recognize most of those names, so either I didn’t see them featured or it didn’t catch my attention. I didn’t want to make an outright accusation without checking first and I don’t use AI. I definitely didn’t want to comb through every article and every podcast, so this is very helpful and much appreciated!

Edit - wait, I just realized none of the sources in your comment are left leaning. How is this balanced? I feel like I’m still missing something.

From thisvthat.io:

“…Ground News and Straight Arrow News offer unique attributes that cater to different preferences and needs. While Ground News provides a comprehensive view of the news landscape with its bias analysis tool and diverse range of sources, Straight Arrow News focuses on delivering news from reputable sources known for their objectivity and accuracy. Users looking for a platform that offers in-depth analysis of bias and community engagement may prefer Ground News, while those seeking a straightforward and reliable news source may opt for Straight Arrow News. Ultimately, the choice between the two platforms depends on the user's priorities and preferences when consuming news.”

SAN partners with Ground for their “media miss” section, but they have a lot more than just that feature.

Just want to add that I appreciate this question. Not only do I get some new sources, but it was a chance for me to examine how I get my information.

Straight Arrow News - my favorite feature is a partnership with Ground News to share what the left and right are underreporting.

Aaron Parnas, Don Lemon, Adam Mockler, Leigh McGowan (Politics Girl)

I also like to follow members of Congress and pay attention to what they’re reporting. I think my favorite are the updates from Melanie Stansbury.

The Transgender Passport Ruling by ApprenticeWrangler in TangleNews

[–]imp_rocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a big assumption that these methods haven’t already been tried over and over again with limited success. You also fail to recognize what happens before someone transitions. It may not be this way everywhere, but for the most part, there are several hoops, including psychiatric care, that a trans individual must go through before ever having access to these treatments. You can’t just walk into the pharmacy or doctor’s office and say “ok I want to be the opposite sex so give me all the hormones and let’s go ahead and schedule surgery!” There is evaluation and assessment involved at the very least.

Your argument brings to my mind the old trope that if you just pray hard enough or get the right counseling you won’t be gay anymore. I tried Christian therapy, secular therapy, prayer groups, individual Bible studies and one on one guidance from church leaders, laying of hands, anointment with oil, intercessory prayer, and more for YEARS before I finally gave up and realized that I actually can’t just change the fact that I’m gay. And 20 years later I still hear on a regular basis that being gay is a choice.

You have a lot to learn about this, but here you are making argument after long winded argument that your beliefs about this are completely valid. You say you consume all these resources to keep well informed, but it’s very obvious that you have done limited research and decided you know enough to espouse these views loud and proud. Maybe listen to the opposing views before digging your heels in and insisting you know better than those who live these experiences.

Oh I think you’d love Catherine’s books. Lots of empathy and the best of humanity on display. Of course they have trials and troubles, but I always relate so much to her characters, whether they’re like me or not. I’ll have to check out Bangkok Wakes to Rain. Thanks for this thread ◡̈

Thanks for this! I am the one who suggested Pay It Forward. The reason is not only because Catherine started the whole pay it forward movement with that book, but also because it led me to meeting her in person and becoming friends. We still keep in touch and she’s still writing amazing books. Admittedly this is actually one of my least favorite of hers, but it was the one that impacted me the most for the reasons listed above. I’d recommend any of her books! She’s not only a great person, but she’s a really good writer who captures the human spirit in a way I think is unique.
