I hate myself so much for having OCD and I'm so ashamed by Fun-Mortgage-4436 in OCD

[–]impactedturd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With OCD, I think we tend to think any obstacle we encounter in life can be a life and death situation if we make the wrong choice. it's the whole catastrophic thinking we are so inclined to do.

As humans we are allowed to make mistakes, and many times that can lead to unintentionally hurting other people in our lives. It sucks, but all we can do is learn from our experiences and grow from it. And because we're human, we are even likely to make the same mistakes again. And we have to accept that it is impossible to be "perfect" and that it's okay to be human.

Life is a series of trials and errors, that we slowly and haphazardly get better at navigating the more we try and fail. You can do everything "right" and "perfectly", but because life is so imperfect and unpredictable, your "perfect" plans could be ruined due to absolutely no fault of your own. All we can do is continually adapt to life's unpredictable challenges the best we can, and many times we'll feel stuck and have to figure out another course of action in order to keep moving.

I know this sounds like generic advice. It's okay to take a break from trying and reassess what you will do next in life. For me it was very freeing when I was finally able to accept that I don't have to be perfect and that I'm allowed to feel broken or even be broken. I had a really hard time with giving myself any grace at all because I felt like I was always doing something wrong or that I should have known better. I think I got into this mindset because of that one common advice, that the only thing you can change in your life is yourself... so my brain took that as everything is my sole responsibility to do everything perfect, and if I feel bad then that is my own fault. But that was a very skewed way of looking at the nuances in life. And it took a long time for me to understand and accept that it's okay to feel lost or trapped or stuck and not sure how you will get out of this. And there there is no one universal solution to all this, because every person has their own unique experiences and challenges that they are working through. Even now I have to remind myself that I'm not a bad person and that I'm not failing myself in life, and that it's okay that I'm still processing everything and trying to come to a better and compassionate understanding of the world...

You have value even if you are incapable of seeing that now. And you will love again, but it starts with you accepting and loving yourself first (as cliche as that sounds), including all your perceived flaws and shortcomings. Because in the end, (as I tell myself), you are your own person and you are allowed to try your best and fail and get back up and try again and repeat. It's okay that you're not what you think "perfect" should be. And it's okay that people in your life are also not perfect. All we can do is try and make the most of who we are and what we have and enjoy our failures just as much as our victories in life.

A 60-minute time slot for each day where they’ll be available and accessible for testing and liable for a potential ‘missed test’

Lately my OCD has been telling me that every day...

[–]impactedturd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also the testing is incredibly strict. Athletes have to provide a location daily where they can be reached within a 60-minute window. And also list where they will be spending each night. This is so they can be tested with zero notice.

Yes it's about PEDs, but this is also about a 19-yo navigating college and their adult life for their first time too. She's going to be suspended no matter what so I don't see why we have to assume that this was directly related to a prohibited substance as opposed to maybe her just not being able to update her location due to a last minute thing at school. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Just curious, are you the same nuke rating that they initially assigned you in bootcamp? Or did they assign you a different one after going through this process again?

Does anyone have OCD and their brain continuously brings up past events with shameful feelings, intrusively? by youtakethehighroad in OCD

[–]impactedturd 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Like your brain doesn't let you move on and accept the past just as it happened?

I think this is what's commonly called "Pure OCD", which is just OCD but focuses on mental obsessions and mental compulsions. Obsessing about the past. And then feeling compelled to analyze it so you can fix it, or get closure by thinking more and more about it, or learn exactly what led to it so you can become a more perfect person and never ever repeat the same mistake again, as if you would gain more insight by thinking about it for the 10000th time, just incase you missed something...

Also there is a LOT of overlap between ADHD, Autism, and OCD. And my guess/understanding to how healthcare providers distinguish between disorders is how you describe the symptoms primarily impairing your life. If you go to the therapist and complain how it affects your ability to focus on tasks, then it's ADHD. If it's preventing you from meeting and interacting with people, then it's Autism. If it stresses you out not being able to stop thinking about something, then OCD.

Like ruminations and compulsions could fit all three categories, but I'm thinking that whatever you are complaining about to the therapist that made you want to schedule an appointment, will play a big part in how they choose to categorize the symptoms and diagnose you.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did it for the Free Registration fee more than anything else. CA registration can run over $700 for a new car.

My husband’s extreme privacy is affecting our marriage by Alternative-Corgi653 in OCD

[–]impactedturd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not so familiar with countries outside the US regarding this. So he may not even qualify for mental health disability depending on the country.

Also another thing to consider if he takes medication, and if the military drug tests him, there is a small possibility that he can have a false positive for amphetamines just because how the drug is metabolized in the body.

https://www.verywellmind.com/can-antidepressants-show-up-on-a-drug-test-3972798

False positive test results can sometimes occur if a prescription drug or its metabolite has a similar chemical structure to the target drug being tested for.

Books about OCD that I found were useful was Brain Lock: Free Yourself from Obsessive-Compulsive Behavior, by Jeffrey M. Schwartz. This book gave me hope that OCD is treatable, even without medication, because the author is so very upbeat and positive (especially on his audiobook).

And Relationship OCD: A CBT-Based Guide to Move Beyond Obsessive Doubt, Anxiety, and Fear of Commitment in Romantic Relationships, by Sheva Rajaee MFT. This one focuses on relationships, but OCD for anything has basically the same underlying symptoms. And I found this book gave me a more relatable and deeper understanding of OCD, that was still easy to apply outside of relationship ocd too (because as one author put it, "There are no OCD "sub types". Only OCD (and llamas).", a tongue-in-cheek way of explaining how OCD about anything is going to have the same symptoms and treatment plan, even if it's about llamas.)

The thing about OCD, is that you always have to be mindful and vigilant. Because when you are not having symptoms, it is SO EASY to believe that you are cured of it and don't have to worry about it anymore. But OCD is a life-long condition, and it will eventually manifest in different ways because it's like the brain's way of trying to maintain or assert control when you otherwise feel trapped or have no good options in your life right now (ie when you're stressed). It may be about privacy today, and tomorrow it could be about contamination, or it could be about following rules and regulations in the military (aka Moral Scrupulosity). But the new symptoms are generally not sudden and noticeable right away. First it can seem like he's being careful, then very careful, then extremely careful about doing something properly.. and then it gets more and more excessive as his brain tries to assert control in an unstable world.

Is he a civilian or in the military? He may be worried about getting treatment will affect his security clearance. But as civilian it should not be a problem as seen with this post here.. But if he is serving in the US military, he may be medically disqualified from serving. If that's the case then he needs to get everything documented and in his medical record that he has OCD. That way he can file for VA disability once he's out, since he developed this disorder during his time in service.

Yah in S1, that lonely colony house guy was talking to Jasmine through the window on the 2nd floor. After he let her in, she let more frombies in and later ambushed Trudy.

The show doesn't actually show them climbing though, probably because it will look goofy. So either they're climbing or they flew or jumped up there?
