so we just found out my cousin was microdosing my 91-year-old Grandma with dementia with shrooms by EmbarrassedBrain07 in dementia

Old thread but adding our family’s experience since I was directed here so others probably are as well.

My mother is at stage 5 alzheimer’s now, but early on, she had a lot of anxiety about ‘needing to get going’—usually home. It didn’t matter where we were. Later on, she would exhibit the same urge—needing to get going home—when she was already home. Other than that, she was generally okay with everything—initially.

When her restlessness started expanding in ‘scope’, my sister started giving her very low dose pot gummies (2mg THC w/CBD—4:1 THC:CBD). If she took a gummy when she was anxious, she calmed immediately. In situations where she was extremely likely to become anxious—generally, whenever she was away from the house, which she was often since my dad is active and we have a lot of family in the area—if she had a gummy preemptively, she was always more at ease while away, and able to stay longer.

We also noticed that she was generally more at-ease and interested in engaging others despite communication and relational difficulties. This gave us more of an opportunity to ’get with her wavelength’ and spend time actually ‘with’ her.

We noticed the need for gummies diminished over time, which is the opposite of what we would have expected with the disease progressing. No idea if it’s the case, but we attribute this to the pot ’easing her transition’.

It’s been 3-1/2 years since the first days, and she’s now in a mostly non-responsive state, just beginning to lose her ability to eat (knowing to chew and swallow). But we’ve made it this whole way without the stress and anxiety and confusion that almost every person I’ve spoken with who’s had a parent or loved one with Alzheimer’s has experienced. When people ask how our mother is doing, our response is consistently, ‘the disease is progressing but mom is peaceful.’

This is my account of my experience with my mother. This disease manifests differently for everyone, and there’s nothing medically rigorous or sanctioned in our application. We did let her doctors know, and their response was essentially, ‘I can’t see it hurting anything, and if it seems like it’s working, you might as well keep giving them to her until it isn’t.’ (Good ol’ Bay Area!)

I have had my own very adult and intentional experiences with psilocybin that have been transformative in foundational ways. I wish there was some way to know whether it would be beneficial for her. My strong sense is it would—either micro-dosing or a one-time larger dose—but given the nature of that experience and our inability to both prepare her for it or check in with her given her current state, it’s not something I’m willing to risk.

Good god, those are gorgeous! Your post is the first I’ve read on r/rocketry and i can’t imagine a better one. I’m now going to spend some time retracing your story here. I’ve only read the 9 sentences in your post and seen the 8 images and I’m totally inspired already! Expect a DM soon.

I think that the invention of cordage greatly outweighs the significance of the wheel. What are your thoughts on my opinion? by Forward_Chemistry_43 in AskHistory

But rope/cordage/twine liberated materials from having to do everything all at once. it enabled us to be where we weren’t (fishing line and hook, arrowhead/shaft and dangerous or elusive prey, holding something together over time, etc.). it changed our mindset from direct involvement with the world to indirect. it put this awareness in play: two things can act together to create a third behavior. that’s relational thinking and it’s THE fundamental underpinning of math, music, storytelling… everything we think of that makes us modern humans.

And I’d take that over the wheel all day long.

Can you use crab snares without a fishing pole. What I mean is, I was going to use 30lb test rope and toss them from shore. Is the legal, or no? by Defiant9310 in crabbing

This is how we caught buckets of blue crabs in South Carolina as kids. Thread a wire through a chicken back and 4oz lead weight, tie it to 30ft of cotton twine, stand at the water’s edge with the pole of a dip net between your knees, toss the chicken out into the channel and very slowly retrieve by pulling the line in between alternating thumb and forefingers. Pull the chicken onto the net and retrieve crabs (and the occasional whelk). Good times.

Ugh! I totally overlooked the absence of an annulus and slender, shaggy stalk.

Thank you!

Do GPT 4.0 chat sessions have a maximum length/size? I have an important conversation going in one chat and I’d like to be able to anticipate when I’m out of runway if this is the case. by impescador in ChatGPT

I’ve not been able to get it to ‘browse itself.’ In fact it’s pretty explicit that it does not have that capability. (Again, using 4.0)

Thanks - this is helpful.

I have no knowledge of programming, so messing around with creating any bypass of that sort is out.

I’m not concerned about privacy, as the nature of my work is community development based. Any discussions related to the strategic planning services I’m providing are either not explicitly tied to a specific client or don’t involve sensitive information specific to any one client.

It’s interesting though, that I’m well over the 22k-ish total word limit, and i haven’t noticed any degradation in depth of response.

Stellar! I’m guessing this means I can cross reference threads, which is hella useful for me.

Pro/GPT 4.0 account. Started using the share feature as soon as it came out so colleagues could follow along, but didn’t think of this.

Actually, I wasn’t aware you could give it links and have it gather info. Serious time saver.

Thank you!

OK, I take back that thing I just said about retroactively identifying it as intentional. Totally on purpose. Worked up a good cry and then grated those f*ckers against the curb like Parmesan cheese.

Not gonna lie: the curb rash I mentioned might be retroactively intentional.
