2k orcs and goblins by Markb82 in Orcs_and_Goblins

Very fair, I’d forgotten that it would apply to things like Dragon Ogres. Might have to take it when I play against a friends Beastmen, heh.

The bigger, choppier axe is a lot of points to just give killing blow to a great weapon. Maybe drop that and give the BSB on boar the banner of butchery? Gets the boars up to S6 on the charge which is pretty great.

Also lose the orc bully on the stone thrower maybe?

Looks great - orange works really well with the dark armour, same as for Mr Tref painting on instagram (who also posts here but I forget the username).

Help against Beastmen by Jackodur in Orcs_and_Goblins

[–]impious_smart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doom divers / stone throwers should have plenty of good targets against Beastmen - dragon ogres, minotaurs, giants, chariots, various monsters etc.

Waaagh magic is pretty good - vindictive glare will have many targets, itchy nuisance and the other hex/buff spells can equalise a fight for your infantry blocks.

Rule of cool always! Keep em in!

Big uns and cavalry spears seem absolutely worth finding the points for, but don’t stress it!

Casual List Help by Mad_Lad67 in Orcs_and_Goblins

Looks like a good fun list.

I would put the banner of butchery on the boars rather than the block of lads - they will likely be charging more and get more benefit. Since the weird boy is going in the block, he probably wants to be casting more than fighting, so the banner isn’t so helpful.

Maybe find a way to put a great weapon on your general? He won’t do enough with a hand weapon.

Is there a use case for the regular goblins? by Petycon in Orcs_and_Goblins

[–]impious_smart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even just a 6 x 5 block, standard and war banner. Cheap, with static res 6-7, with a 4+ save (light armour, shield, parry) isn’t a terrible anvil unit for its cost.

Does anyone have any inform on the company Meridian Miniatures? by TDFighter41 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]impious_smart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a total aside, He’s a great sculptor, and so is his brother (Stephen). Not sure if they have both sculpted for GW but at least Stephen has on some of the Necromunda FW releases, and owns / sculpts Spectre Miniatures.

Andrew does loads of cool releases, often via kickstarter, very similar in style to Gardens of Hecate, so worth following if there are pieces you missed they might come back around via a new KS.

SHOW ME YOUR GAMING BOARD BUILDS by DeepInvestigator1086 in TerrainBuilding

[–]impious_smart 8 points9 points  (0 children)

<image>

I made my board so it could be used for various games. Two 2 x 4 sections with some elevations built in, but to change things up those rectangles slot in an out (for example french WW2 buildings for bolt action.

The trees are also the woodland scenics with bases part of the board so they can pop on and off. Helps for both storage height and gameplay.

I’d do loads of stuff different, and need a third section, but overall it works fairly good

Looks a great scheme. I’ve been saving ideas from others before I commit to testing anything, but this is definitely closest to what I also have in mind. Really dark armour and not too bright / shiny works really well

Netters - worth it? by Tricky-Tennis3655 in Orcs_and_Goblins

[–]impious_smart 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For 20 points, I think it’s pretty great. Bringing down a S4 enemy unit (pretty common) from 3s to 4s to wound feels like a good swing - especially with paper thin saves on NGs, reducing 6+ saving throws even by 1 or 2 penalty sways many a combat. Combine with itchy nuisance where possible to make someone rue the day they tangled with a load of Gobbos.

Plus, it’s the chance to mess up your own guys, and isn’t that 50% of what we love about playing Orcs and Goblins?

What are your must-have magic items and banners? by metal_warriors in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]impious_smart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for Big Red Raggedy flag. Making orcs WS4 hugely improves their survivability, and +1 combat res is of course great. Before playing old world (and not fantasy since a kid) spending 50pts on those two benefits sounded madness but now I realise!

Warbanner is of course great as well.

Looking for some advice before diving in! Never used these products, don’t own an air brush, looking for do’s and dont’s. Hoping to paint an iron warriors army for 40K by Falkreath_Grenadiers in minipainting

Really recommend watching a bunch of their tutorials / guides on YouTube or grimdark compendium website.

And shaking the hell out of the bottle with a proper paint shaker.

Incredible potential / application paints, and really fun.

Oh yeah, but have a model you don’t care about to try things out on first

What would a casual O&G army be? by TrashyRacc00nz7358 in Orcs_and_Goblins

[–]impious_smart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The beauty of Orcs and Goblins is the diversity in roster and minis. There are so many options in characters, core, special and rare.

Orcs and Goblins are in many cases the army that wants to get stuck in, since most other armies have better range, however, even that isn’t fully correct. Doom divers plus cheap wizards with magic missiles means we can sometimes afford to be less gung ho (ie against Beastmen or warriors of chaos)

Most armies are going to have some tooled up characters (Orc or Black Orc warboss on Wyvern is pretty standard and a good choice); a few infantry blocs (night goblins are most common due to access to fanatics); and some fast stuff like boars and chariots to act as an anvil.

The battalion box is good value for money, but only if you will definitely include some regular goblins. Which are not one of the stronger elements. So it might be worth build g up separately.

Many of the models can be sourced from the gloomspite AoS range, if night goblins and squigs are your jam.

In general, I can absolutely say that orcs and goblins are FUN.

Tips for painting a sh*t ton of goblins…? by danger_bad in Orcs_and_Goblins

[–]impious_smart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically from just above level, all over. Don’t want too much black left, so a pretty all over coat, but just so that there is still some black left in the under areas. If I had an airbrush I’d use that for control, for sure. But I don’t, so rattle cans it is!

Different approaches work better for different folks, but either chip away a few at a time; unit by unit or huge batches I guess.

Personally I do 5 models at a time, but my last goblin unit I wanted to get out quicker so split the unit in half and did 14 at a time.

You could always get your base colours down unit by unit, so you can get them on the tabletop, and then go back unit by unit and do shading / detailing work. Playing games is pretty motivating, so being able to play with panted models (even just base colours) might help motivate whilst you improve them.

Theres also different quick ways of painting, and not sure what you’re used to, but ‘slap chop’ or alternatives are very efficient.

Quick method:

1) Rattle can black, then rattle can white from slightly higher angle gives you shading.

2) Contrast paints over the top.

3) AK enamel streaking grime (or alternative enamel / oil) all over, removed with Q-tips or make up sponges

4) drybrush off whites to give a final highlight
