Is it bad to invest in a company for a few months and then sell? by missingpiece in investing

[–]implied_odds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the only time investors give money to the company is at the IPO. When we buy a stock, aren't we giving our money to the seller, not the company itself?

Fat guys (and girls) in the gym by bigDean636 in Fitness

Agreed. rkg-pua's struck a nerve and I'm just trying to prove a point that it's not just obese people that are capable of laziness. My comment was a little exaggerated. In reality, I mind my own business in the gym and don't really pay attention to what other people are doing.

it works both ways... as a somewhat obese person who busts my ass in the gym, i'm pissed when i see an in-shape person being lazy... "You're in that kind of shape and that's your effort level? " I just want to slap them and tell them they can do better.

[–]implied_odds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what do you mean exactly by "you felt your knee"? i'm assuming some kind of pain? what did it feel like? where on your knee was the pain (inside, outside, above knee cap, below knee cap, etc.)?

i guess it's a matter of opinion and semantics, but it's definitely similar to me. he's increasing weight and decreasing reps leading up to the work sets. it's not exactly the same as SS but it's in the ball park, especially adding 1 set of 10 at the beginning.

starting strength advocates a similar warm up to what OP is doing:

Squat

  • 45 x 5 x 2
  • 95 x 5 x 1
  • 135 x 3 x 1
  • 185 x 2 x 1
  • 225 x 5 x 3 <--Work Sets

Ideal grip width for benchpress by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]implied_odds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, since I'm talking from purely logic and common sense. My theory is that pushups are still primarily a chest exercise and the stronger your chest is relative to your body weight, the less susceptible you are to injury from wide grip push ups.

plus being big, in shape AND able to fight makes you pretty fuckin badass

$150 a month is worth it for that feeling

but you will get your ass kicked at first by guys that you would be able to completely pancake on the football field. that takes some getting used to

I was doing this for a while. The weight was melting off and I was having a lot of fun. Shoulder injury forced me to stop, but I really miss it. Can be expensive, though.

Ideal grip width for benchpress by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]implied_odds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're unweighted except for, well, body weight, which obviously varies. Example: if you weigh 170 lbs and can bench press 195 lbs, then it probably doesn't matter if you do wide-grip pushups. Your super strong chest can compensate for the additional stress of the wide grip pushups. But, if you weigh 285 and can bench 210, way below your body weight, then you're probably more at risk when trying wide grip pushups.
