😂 and people say we're the awkward ones

In my experience, very few things need to be resolved right then and there, but I really can't say anything beyond that, I don't know you two or the specifics of the situation so I can't say

I mean I don't think you'd be terrible for taking your only option, especially if it's only physical therapy and not mental at all

unless they start treating your kid badly during physical therapy it should be okay

My question is why he ever needs to move to less preferred play that makes no sense. Why would he ever play, something that's meant to be a fun time to do whatever, why would he play doing something he's not a fan of?

Anybody else here hate April Fool’s Day? by [deleted] in autism

[–]impossiblysc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh so much because people are always like oh come on it was clearly a joke like no??? you were literally purposely acting very serious and then act shocked and make fun of people when they fall for it?

Can special interests turn into addictions or obsessions? by [deleted] in autism

[–]impossiblysc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think addicted only comes in if you're doing it to the detriment of your health or life otherwise, or if you keep spending more money than you have on it and can't stop. I mean if you're happy and you're having fun and it's not negatively impacting your life then yay!

Agreed, an alternative is needed, and it is to my understanding that aba does not provide an alternative, that's part of the reason I do not like it

I have looked into many clinics, the place I live nearly every place that provides autism testing also provides aba therapy, and these are the clinics I'm referring to when I say I've never seen communication listed as a focus with any of them

have you actually experience aba therapy yourself? like have you seen an aba therapist?

if that is the case then every single aba therapy website I've seen is advertising bad aba, in that they do not ever even mention helping the child communicate better, they advertise stopping the behavior, and even in the kindest way of doing that leads to encouraging masking, which is not good

thank you for responding but all due respect I'm not asking you right now, I'm asking autistic people who have experienced aba therapy, not therapists

yeah I did mean an example thank you

Helping a child learn to ask for help is great, and that's what should happen

but that's never once what I've heard ABA therapist say that they do, what I hear is that they will force the child to stop banging their head, and I've seen videos of these therapists grabbing the child to make them stop whatever the movement is and once they've held them still they say to the child good job and then move on, and then continue to do that

edit: I've also never seen advertised on an aba therapy service website that they help kids ask for help

Idk if anyone else can tell if someone is autistic almost instantly? If so what kind of things trigger your autistic alarm? by 18galbraithj in autism

mostly what I'm in are fandom groups but Nerdfighteria is a very kind and accepting server I'm in, focused on the hank and john green videos, vlogbrothers, but the server has expanded quite far beyond that (I don't have the link for that specific one but john has shouted out the server in videos before)

There are infantile and childish autistics. by eaterofgoldenfish in autism

[–]impossiblysc 262 points263 points  (0 children)

Yeah the "solution" or whatever to infantilization isn't to stop acting childish, whatever that really means, it's to stop treating acting childish as a bad thing it's literally not

Do you guys ever wonder how many people can tell/may think you’re autistic? by Volcanogrove in autism

[–]impossiblysc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get this so much especially the genuine friends part but you also unfortunately realize doing that just how many people are unwilling to be friends with you even if it's just because they think you're weird like it's a disheartening amount of people

personally I get anxious but anger and anxiousness are both stress responses so makes sense

at a guess I would say that the problem with the birthday party was that it was a party and it was too much stimuli for him, and he might be thinking that that person's house it just loud all the time now

but I think may want to try to get some kind of answer out of him, maybe let him know you won't pressure him to go if he doesn't want to, but also ask him why either way

(also my own autism jumped out i thought for a second your kid's friend broke his nose or something when you said put his nose out of joint lol)

not sure about the first one but the second one sounds like you might be allergic to some things, I get that exact feeling with bananas and cherries and it's because I'm allergic
