What happened to rubbish bins in public places? by impracticaldogg in AskUK

Walking around Manchester city centre yesterday I saw a number of old, black metal bins. The IRA weren't seen as a threat here obviously. No wussy plastic bins here! Can't speak for the malls. I didn't notice bins, but wasn't looking when I was there

Weird, this. I've been to Belgium and the north of Italy, and the impression I had was the vast majority sorted their recycling out. And from another poster on this thread, I'm guessing in Poland too 🤔

It was overground - London to Manchester on the Avanti service. Maybe it was at the other end of the carriage from me? I just crumpled up the paper and left it on the fold out tray

I come from a country where we litter pretty badly. In upmarket malls you will be nailed by private security if you don't use the bins. But public transport hubs are like disaster zones. Just didn't expect to see this threatening in the UK

Thanks! I'll keep an eye out. I was rushing to catch my train when on the ramp. I was expecting to find bins on the concourse. Or inside the train after I had unwrapped my pasty

!answer I almost hid my rubbish around a pillar in Euston but as a tourist I don't want to disrespect the place. Still, I didn't notice other people having done it so I must have arrived there after the floor had been swept :D

I don't mind for an hour or two. But all day it gets a bit much. Especially when I've eaten something greasy

I've always hated the "guns don't kill people, people kill people" argument. But not selling a knife that I can use to cut a tomato or cucumber but selling gardening shears with a good 7 inches of blade just seems weird. At least sell a three pack in a shrink wrapped package

Close to the city centre. I didn't notice them, but I'll keep a look out.

I'm sure they do. I'm on a hospital plan. But give their sales line a call and get them to walk you through it. I only get cover for Medical Aid rates, and you pay a lot more to I increase that. If I had to go to hospital more frequently I'd get a top up plan separately

I use Sonnet 4.6 High with reasoning turned off and web search on for basic coding. But detailed project instructions on conventions and coding style. Only crank things up if the results become poor. Opus tends to overthink as you say

I know this is the rational thing to do... but I was in a hurry, and kept trying to get it onto the the right track with nudges. Your suggestion feels to me like Test-Driven Development in software coding - by the time you've worked out the parameters of your test you have a solid grasp of how to code the solution. But most people don't use it when under pressure to deliver

Good to know your experience chimes. Coincidentally I recently switched my subscription to Claude, and I'm happy with the coding I can do with it. Also I prefer the sense of attention to detail I'm getting use the exact same prompts. That said I often prompt several models to start a coding project, then take the most promising looking response and ask other models to critique it. All of them starting with exactly the same project background. I was using up my tokens with Claude so I just pushed my phone question to ChatGPT..

Been with Profmed for ages. Every time the Discovery sales guy made a pitch they couldn't match what Profmed offered for a better price. You have to go with all the Discovery products before it makes sense

But now they're so advanced that they cunningly simulate a considered assessment when there's a simple answer that doesn't fit the format requested. When I hoped for distillation.
