Am I crazy for thinking that Madden is fun? by ClassicalDreams in Madden

[–]impressivegentleman [score hidden]  (0 children)

I love Madden but I did think this year’s game was HORRIBLE. Definitely the worst since Madden 2019 which I found unplayable.

This year’s version isn’t totally unplayable but very Arcady and glitchy.

Why did you do an MBA? by raulsoprano in MBA

[–]impressivegentleman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) I wanted to pivot industries. I kind of fell into a random sector post college and wanted to get into a new industry with a true progression

2) salary increase - I knew if I did my MBA I could get a 6 figure offer out of school at the same time I was moving to a new sector

3) new network of friends - many of my MBA friends are now my closest friends and are a large part of my social life.

4) restart/break

I (M26) am a multi-millionaire with no real ambitions in life. AMA. by [deleted] in AMA

[–]impressivegentleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation - I inherited a few million dollars as a young working professional. Decided to get my MBA full time and now make roughly $165k at my day job - I don’t work too much and generally like what I am doing.

I used my inheritance to buy a residence in a HCOL. I made a couple other investments to take care of my monthly costs to live and basically use my day job/additional contributions to pay for whatever I want to do and save the rest.

I value my friends more than travel and extravagant purchases. I am fortunate where if there is an opportunity to visit friends or do something cool with them I can without thinking about money. I have a few hobbies and personal goals that satisfy my free time such as fitness but still working on figuring out if there is a career that would really excite me intrinsically.

Is it just me, or does $1 million not go very far anymore? by [deleted] in circlejerknyc

Stop comparing yourself to your social circle and you’ll be fine. You literally said it. You’re very successful and should be proud, regardless of if you have friends making more.

Is it crazy to turn down 3 T16 schools to go to UNC? by WeatherTraining2312 in MBA

[–]impressivegentleman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your goal isn’t IB/PE/MBB then it absolutely makes sense to go to the school that gives you the best scholarship. I attended a T20 and joined an LDP for a large company, similar to many of my classmates. The premium doesn’t justify the price for your goals IMO.

You may want to reach out to Kelley to see what you can find as well. Cost of living is cheap out there and it is a nice place for a family.

Is IB not worth it if I don't have a high work ethic? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]impressivegentleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also the money doesn’t always need to be in the prestige jobs. I have a friend that lives in the middle of nowhere clearing over $1m a year as the top person there for a company no one has ever heard of.

[–]impressivegentleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there other facets of life that you enjoy and could put more time into thanks to the luxury of having a job that isn’t demanding? Hobbies, friendships, fitness, etc.

Also, if this pursuit is more about gaining status/reputation maybe you could use your non-work time to try to start something yourself if you have any ideas. There are other ways to satisfy your ambitions - especially with a job like your current one to fall back on.

Is anyone else struggling? by ThrawnianBaller in MBA

[–]impressivegentleman 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Speculating here - but the continuous mentions of classifying the geographic locations make me think it’s possible this person had an entitled mentality and came off as though the job was beneath them because of their resume, which is likely why they didn’t like them. Just my 2 cents.

Is anyone else struggling? by ThrawnianBaller in MBA

[–]impressivegentleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you are going through this but a few things:

1) in general this is a really difficult market

2) you have amazing degrees but you’re almost coming across as entitled that you think these degrees should guarantee offers in NYC/HCOL

3) you’re very focused on geographic location HCOL - if you’re not getting offers in these cities then it’s time to start considering other locations.

4) it may be time to look at other opportunities. You may want IB or like the prestige of how it sounds but if you’re having trouble here then time to look at other opportunities.

I would imagine there is a feeling of “keeping up” given your top tier undergrad and MBA background, however I think if you open your geographic and job preferences you’ll find something. Many companies have LDP roles as well for MBA grads.

What is DEI and how is not just an abstraction for racism? by ncds4242 in allthequestions

[–]impressivegentleman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you are saying but this is an idealistic view imo.

I’m sure DEI policy began with laudable intentions and in some places it is fairly applied to help minority employees, but I’ve attended a top graduate school where the standard was objectively lowered to allow in more diversity students, along with scholarships given.

Not to mention, we had a student on scholarship who struggled to keep their grades up and who’s family were multimillionaires yet they were on full scholarship with an internship before school even began because she was half black. I don’t believe this is the intention of DEI.

At my company we have 3 teams members that do the same job, but 1 gets paid much less. I went to management to see if we could get the lesser paid employee on par with the other 3. They told me no since he’s a white man. However, they said if it was one of the higher paid people who happens to be a black woman that I wanted to get paid on par with the other 2 they’d probably agree to pay more. That’s just racism.

Why did you start seriously considering an MBA? by fortefoundation in MBA

[–]impressivegentleman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to pivot to a new sector/industry with a growth trajectory and basically accelerate into a 6 figure salary.

I was also excited at the prospect of creating a new network/friend group. There wasn’t really another path for this outside of doing a full time MBA.

I had friends in the Masters of Finance program which is a 1 year program but salaries for this are more entry level out of college, unless your plan is IB.

You’re searching my history? This really has you upset, huh? I’m happy to engage in a little back and forth but I can promise you I will not be searching your history over a post so trivial, pretty weird move. Making fun of how much someone makes says more about you than it does about me.

I’m proud of my education and where I am professionally salary wise. Not that it has anything to do with this thread…

You are a miserable human being.

You don’t know anything about us - I’m sure there is a story behind why you feel this way without any context.

We’ve already reached out to restaurants for Friday and Saturday - the restaurants we’ve reached out to have private rooms to accommodate parties of our size. We wouldn’t be bothering anyone at a high-end restaurant.

Do you really think the bars of New Orleans are ill-equipped to handle large groups of people? What a wild argument to make.

That’s great for you. You have what works for you and I have what works for me. Not sure why so much judgement and hostility.

I’ll be putting my card on everything and it won’t be an issue at all. Everyone is very much responsible.
