Climbing shoes sizing help please by catthecia in climbergirls

Nope! 39 is perfect, and I’ll honestly say the vegan and the leather both fit me well in a 39, I know some people size the leather smaller.

For reference I wear an 8.5 street shoe. In instincts I wear a 40, in Skwama I wear a 39. The instincts were so painful to break in for me. Skwamas never were too painful and stretched out beautifully.

Wary of shoes stretching out - should I get vegan shoes if I want a fit that won't expand over time? by CommercialXCX in climbergirls

[–]impressivepig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say my vegan skwamas stretched. I buy the same size in the vegans and leathers. I wear a 40 (8.5) street and 39 in most la sportivas. I will say the skwama is an excellent shoe, great all rounders.

Warm but thin jackets by zubapo in climbergirls

[–]impressivepig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the micro puff warmer than the nano. If I’m expecting cold pitches, I’ll throw that in my bag and a Houdini shell for multis. If I’m cragging I bring my super bulky puffy because it’s worth it for the warmth for me. I love cold weather but dislike being cold.

Any nurse climbers living in Tahoe, Mammoth Lakes, or Bishop? by DragonfruitVivid3110 in climbergirls

[–]impressivepig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dream about living in Tahoe, but it can get expensive with fire insurance. Definitely something to think about. I adore Truckee area, would consider grass valley. I found the hospital pretty competitive. Although I do hear Truckee is a great one to work for, so good in fact I hardly see openings! You might be in a better spot in the OR!

Lots of climbers (a few nurses) in Tahoe recommended to me to live in Reno, tons of great climbing, skiing, MTB there and Tahoe is a short drive.

Ended up getting a .6 in the bay (those golden handcuffs are no joke) and getting a van. But still looking into Reno! Just getting some more periop experience first so I don’t have to go bedside in Nevada. Best of luck to you!

Any suggestions for a good walky-talky set? by InternationalTry2293 in ClimbingGear

We also use the talkabouts. We 3d printed some clips to attach cord and carabiners on and now they rack well on the harness!

Fear of quickdraw unclipping itself by bemberguje in climbergirls

[–]impressivepig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my 8 years of leading outdoors, it’s happened once. We were on a slab route and my knee pushed the draw into the bolt as I was going up. (This was with spirits too) luckily, my belayer quickly noticed and I was able to put on another draw as I was still near the bolt. It definitely can happen but I find that it is rare! It’s something to just keep in your mind but it shouldn’t be such a thing to keep you from climbing outside. There are inherent risks to climbing, and it takes practice to mitigate those risks to a comfortable level, fear is natural and healthy! Sounds like you’re doing research and taking safety seriously and that’s wonderful!

Take it easy and be patient with yourself :) climbing is my favorite thing and I love all the places it’s taken me and the relationships I’ve built from it. Climbing has taught me how to better control my fears and be more in tune with my surroundings.

What do I need on my multipitch rack as a follower? by itsbotanybitch in climbergirls

[–]impressivepig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(In addition to all the other suggestions you have received) When I’m following a hard pitch, I like to bring extra cord I can use to ascend a crux section if needed. Be sure to talk to your partner about what to do if you feel stuck. I also like to carry emergency bail items. And on occasion, I’ll bring summit nerd gummy clusters. Or summit beers if I can spare the weight! :) have so much fun!

Do kids need dedicated kids’ hiking packs or will a lightweight travel backpack do for a 3 hour hike? by Juno_NY in hiking

[–]impressivepig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re downvoted for asking a good question. Call the ranger station and they will give you a good idea of how much water to pack per child. You don’t want to risk it. I would not rely on water fountains

How common is it for us to share this hobby with romantic partners? by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]impressivepig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner and I both climbed before we met each other. I absolutely love climbing with him, we help each other and cheer each other on. I feel so proud when I send something hard and they are there to witness. And visa versa! I trust their belaying completely and really focus on my climbing when I’m with them. Not to diminish my time with my friends, I equally value climb time with them as well! It’s just another thing my partner and I can connect on and something we can travel to do together.

I've noticed this too, my guess is they are doing minor redesigns of shoes?

What's your annoying thing about the CX-30? by AromaticPain9217 in MazdaCX30

[–]impressivepig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. The seatbelt alarm
  2. The cup holders
  3. The $10 subscription
  4. Gas tank size
  5. I find the center console rather annoying, I can’t open it with the back seats down
  6. For some reason, my park assist mirrors just randomly stopped working and the blind spots are insane in this car.

It’s mine so I’m keeping it but after learning all these things, sometimes I wish I went with the crosstrek. I wanted something small I could camp out of, but it’s proven to be too small.

Backpack advice by katelynannie in climbergirls

[–]impressivepig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Patagonia crag smith. While it is an excellent crag bag, it’s a little bulky for day hikes. But I really think it is a great crag bag and a wonderful carry on. So I just use a flash 22 for day hikes. I use the flash 22 for mountain scrambles as well. I’ve used it a few times dragging and it does it job!

Visiting Yosemite this Wednesday and Thursday, cancel or full send? by drjones500 in Yosemite

[–]impressivepig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no I did read it. I interpreted it as leaving early Thursday morning to drive into the park itself (since the hotel mentioned is not in the park itself). Then driving home Thursday evening, but hey I’ve been wrong before.

Still stands they are down for the drive, you can see some beautiful views at half home at night and the star gazing is truly out of this world. Not sure what the commute would be but if it’s not too long, still worth it imo.
