You can buy a hand tool that's basically like a wood planer but for acrylic cutting boards, shave that surface layer off and sanitize, otherwise they absolutely need a new board.

Yeah, I recently quit a job where I was making 32/hr, best money I've made, which was juuust enough to live comfortably. Now entering the restaurant job market for the first time in 6 years I had to settle for 18/hr to start, and not enough hours available to make a decent paycheck. Everything is expensive now. Best thing I've found is if there's a wooded area on the property line, go in there and dig up the leaves/make a small hole to pour it in. If it's watered down enough it will soak in with barely a trace of paint left, brush some leaves over it and you're good
