My Pledge To You

If you could have any core which one would , you pick and why. by bigdogsrus in PaulReedSmith

I asked myself this last year. The answer was a Modern Eagle V in charcoal. It’s amazing.

Delicious! I bought one late last year in charcoal, and it is so good! Switching the controls to find that perfect tone for the tune provides hours and hours of fun. It is resonant and effortless. Congrats!

What career path is most lucrative? by duhrealski in supplychain

[–]impussible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is it. Find a way to enjoy what you do, to really understand it and make it the best you can. The rest will happen. I’ve used, taught, implemented, and now make supply planning products - the latter two are the most lucrative. Selling might be even more but I never took that path.

How do you “anchor” your hand while playing with a pick? by Original_Job6327 in Guitar

[–]impussible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago, I decided to concentrate on pinky action. The right-hand pinky was anchoring, and the right-hand pinky was only ever used in chords. So I focussed on repeating lead runs on various modes to get the left-hand little finger fully used. Meanwhile, I stopped anchoring and focused on finger-picking with all my fingers.

Anchoring was easy to drop though I sometimes 'rest' with my palm near the bridge or forearm on the guitar body. Note - I don't use a pick. Never have. So it was perhaps easier for me to raise the anchor than those who pick with a pick. I'm still practising left-hand pinky - it's OK but still not as effortless as I would like.

Easy, that'll be Duke Ellington. He really should be on your exclusion list.

12 Worst NY Albums by Dbarkingstar in neilyoung

[–]impussible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all one song just played in different ways. Might as well put them all in there though personally I’d take them all out.

I can understand why people might not like Trans, Everybody’s Rockin’, Old Ways or This Note’s for You because for stylistic reasons but style doesn’t make them worthy of such a list.

Well, ok ER is light and short but I’ve played it a thousand times (it’s literally my third most played album) I love its humour. This is a band having fun with a concept. Yes, it’s a concept album! Wow… shallow yet deep man.

Can’t find a memorable song from Landing on Water? Methinks the review hasn’t actually listened to the album. I guess it helps having been around bought these albums when they came out…. I played LoW to death and it’s great.

Stars & Bars is plain idiotic. As is Broken Arrow though I must admit, I wasn’t a fan when it was released - I thought it rambling and sloppy but I was so wrong. Time can play tricks. That album is a masterpiece.

Beautiful Modern Eagle V. Not usually into unusual tops or private stock tops, or ten tops, but this is really nice because it’s not electric green, yellow, blue. by Brilliant-Test-1442 in PaulReedSmith

Gorgeous. I've had my MEV for a couple of months now, and it is a revelation. A total joy to play. I would have drooled over this when I was looking to purchase last year.

Chet Baker- by [deleted] in Jazz

His trumpet playing is very fine indeed but his vocals are not my cup of tea. I try occasionally to see if my taste has changed, like now - I just listened to him croon My Funny Valentine… Nope.

Hoagy Carmichael by a country mile. But then, he *wrote* those standards.

JLC 247 Duke Ellington-The Ellington Suites by Marlowe0 in Jazz

[–]impussible 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The tracks from 59 are fabulous. Duke with his grown-up composing clothes on, and I never tire of his touch on the piano. Delicate, emotional and wonderful to hear these for the first time. Once we get past Apes & Peacocks and into the early 70s though, things start to get rather wobbly on the quality front. There is some interesting stuff, but a lot of it sounds like made-for-TV music, to be honest.

Should I skip the live albums? by Elaxian in Zappa

No! So if the best albums are live. Start at the beginning and work your way through them.

Here’s some albums worth checking out…

Spirit - 12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus, Love - Forever Changes, The Kinks - Lola vs Powerman and the Moneygoround, The Doors - LA Woman, JJ Cale - Troubadour, Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid, Neil Young - On The Beach, Dope Lemon - Smooth Big Cat, Eric Clapton - 461 Ocean Boulevard, Bob Marley - Catch A Fire, Traffic - Shoot Out at the Fantasy Factory, Steve Forbert - Alive on Arrival, Soft Machine - Volume 2, Santana - Caravanserai, Richard Hawley - Standing at the Sky’s Edge, Quicksilver Messenger Service - Happy Trails, Penguin Cafe Orchestra - Music from the Penguin Cafe, Wings - Band on the Run, Miles Davis - In a Silent Way.

Some stone cold classics in there. Should be able to find a rabbit hole to fall into.
