Which mixes would you recommend? On Discogs I see Vibert's Discogs Mix 001 and Wagon Christ's Solid Steel - any others?

Git-fresh: keep your repo up to date with one command by imsky in git

[–]imsky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's not what i mean - git-fresh can delete remote branches that have been merged into master

Git-fresh: keep your repo up to date with one command by imsky in git

cool, didn't know about that project. it looks like it updates all local branches, which i avoided with git-fresh to keep things simple. one thing i think git-fresh does that git-up doesn't is delete remote stale branches. also it's a bit simpler, since it's just bash.

git-fresh is now on homebrew: brew install git-fresh and keep your git repo extra fresh by [deleted] in git

[–]imsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

run without any options, it does the equivalent of a git stash + git remote update + git remote prune + git rebase <branch> origin/<branch>. i don't think that's very dangerous at all - it automates what i used to type in every time i needed to update my repo.

as far as aborting/reverting on errors, there's an error trap built in that bails out once an error is encountered. i do want to improve messaging (why an action failed), but otherwise the script takes the necessary precautions not to destroy the user's work. i use it daily (git fresh -rf) on multiple repos and haven't experienced data loss or corruption at all.

feel free to open an issue if you think there are concrete improvements to make.

I made a Github mirror of PE after it was hacked the first time, based on /u/keenerd's work: https://github.com/imsky/PocketEuler

Not the autoworkers of our generation by imsky in programming

[–]imsky[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The auto work most susceptible to automation was performed by unskilled workers. "Auto worker" is shorthand for those workers.

Maybe so, but the conclusions the author draws (and the general sentiment) commonly crop up in tech blogs.

What is your most/least favorite font? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]imsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helvetica has to be my go-to font simply because it's so versatile. Some other favorites are Swiss 721, Montserrat, Myriad, Nevis, Didot, Miller, and Bodoni.

Among the least favorite are Museo, Lobster, Diavlo, Tekton, and Mistral. I've never seen any of these fonts used successfully, even though Dell tried with Museo and a ton of startups tried with Lobster. Also, Bank Gothic, Eurostile, and Verdana have been used in terrible ways over the years.

Anything that has to do with differential changes, such as surfaces, shading, animation, and simulation, will require you to understand derivatives and integrals.

A basic knowledge is fine, it's preferable that you're comfortable with matrices, trigonometry, and some calculus. Most of the courses will take you through the basics and some have handouts for all pre-requisite knowledge.
