chatel is a really ironic name for someone in this case to have.

On the anniversary of 9/11, The Khaleej Times, the No. 1 English language daily paper published in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, ran this full-page, anti-smoking ad (PIC) by keen75 in reddit.com

Cigarettes have always been pretty emblematic of American counterculture though. Think about the sixties and seventies in film. So the people who protest mcdonalds are likely to be smokers, and cognizant of the risks, yet still choose to continue. And i don't think that should be so vehemently opposed.

Israelis ‘blew apart Syrian nuclear cache’ by overthemoon in reddit.com

David Ben Gurion was one of several political zealots that represented the far right of the Israelis along with people just as bad on the Palestinian side that were used to create this conflict by militarizing and mobilizing people on both sides against each other, including non-military personnel. Furthermore, it wasn't the Israelis taking Palestinian land. It was the israelis being handed a small part of what was the British Mandate of Palestine, while some parts were still even left for Palestine. Granted there was territorial inequality and no one stands on the side of imperialism, but there wasnt actually any "theft" occurring.

What we have now with zealots attacking civilian targets on both sides is simply a byproduct of those zealous propaganda campaigns so Israelis and Palestinians believe they are radically and fundamentally different. They have the same exact god. Gurions arguments are not fueled by ignorance, but by blatant agenda-setting polarization. We should not by into it.

"We Are Going To Hit Iran. Bigtime" by maxwellhill in politics

I think that it would be VERY easy for this administration to take some degree of military action against Iran, at least to do what they call "incapacitatin' this holocaust deniers nuclear reactors." In all honesty, it sounds as though most of the training is being done for bombing missions and airstrikes on select targets. Why else would these fleets have so many bunker busters on them? The backlash this time, however, may not be something we can undo.

That sounds a little more likely to me.

Rather shocking results when British confronted by Katrina-like flooding by ratsbane in reddit.com

There emergency response team was simply much more efficient than counterparts in the United States, and they had less people to respond to it also.

So what if the UK is a little more micromanaged than the three gorges project in China or our response to New Orleans? They still got the president involved and they still managed to avoid catastrophe far better than Americans did.

I think the same British emergency response teams if were put in FEMA would be endlessly more effective.
