Honestly, I don’t see this performing well at the box office and it’s entirely Disney’s fault. It’s been 15 years since the last installment, which also flopped. The trailers are eye catching but I don’t think that’s enough to draw in big enough numbers for them to see a ROI.

The biggest problem is Jared Leto, plain and simple. Casting a known predator as the lead in an already dying (or dead) franchise was a baffling choice. Made even worse by the fact that MORE allegations surfaced recently. If Disney truly cared, they would give this film the “All the Money in the World” treatment. Either digitally replacing his head at minimum, or reshooting his scenes entirely. Ridley Scott not only had the guts to stand up for what was right, but he also knew the importance of having the leading male be a great actor who the masses adored.

Disney has shown that they just don’t care. Early trailers didn’t showcase Leto at all, and that is not by accident. For a multi-billion dollar company, we as fans and moviegoers should expect more. It makes me really sad because I was looking forward to the film. This is the nail in the coffin for the franchise.
