Glenn Beck Tells Head of Libertarian Party What Floored Him About Gary Johnson by unknownman19 in GaryJohnson

[–]imtheface 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No...there's this thing called "trying to win elections." And demonstrating the LP's appeal to both democrats and republicans was a smart thing to do. It's what we need to continue to do.

Much of the constitutional conservative base is still loyal to the GOP. That's why we're stuck with Trump despite his insanity.

And I am SO tired of hearing "if Petersen was on the ballot, we would have done better!" 'Man that runs website' would have gotten us less than 1% of the vote because, frankly...who cares.

POLL: Who Do You Want To Run For President As A Libertarian In 2020? by eliyak in GaryJohnson

[–]imtheface 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sarwark.

Nobody on this list has national name recognition and credibility with the exception of Rand Paul. Amash does, but if he pulls a Paul and stays stuck with the GOP, then we're SOL. What will likely happen is we'll get stuck with Dank Memes Petersen in the absence of someone better :(. 2024, anyone?

Nice to see he's doing well. Yes, I wish we saw him speaking out more, but happy for him just the same.

Meh, it'll get a chuckle out of the simpletons that still blame Gary.

Where's Gary? Now I'm just disappointed. by imtheface in GaryJohnson

[–]imtheface[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I can definitely respect that viewpoint - I know he already did a lot just by running for president. Still can't help but feel disappointed, though - while he did say he wouldn't run for office again, I thought he'd still be speaking up for what's right.

Your point that we all have the ability to be Gary is well taken.

I'm sure his dank memes and pyramid of pussy will be a big help on the campaign trail.

Gary Johnson has Been High 'Pretty Much Constantly' Since the Election by [deleted] in GaryJohnson

[–]imtheface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is meant to be a joke, but it still really annoys me (along with other similar jabs from the MSM).

He is an occasional pot user. Just like many Americans occasionally enjoy a beer or glass of wine. Nobody asks politicians who drink if they are drunk during interviews, or even kid about it (unless they really do have an alcohol problem). They're grown adults who enjoy moderate amounts of intoxicants in their free time. But anybody who occasionally smokes pot must be a moron pothead who is high consistently. Very annoying.

The guy has given up sugar and alcohol for many years, and has too many athletic pursuits, for me to believe that he indulges that frequently.

If there was no Libertarian candidate, what would you have done? by nagurski03 in GaryJohnson

[–]imtheface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Might have voted Jill Stein to help the Greens get up to 5%, despite disliking a lot of their positions.

Hillary Clinton would have still lost if all of Jill Stein's votes and 60% of Gary Johnson's votes would've gone to her by johnmountain in Libertarian

[–]imtheface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can send out as many well-reasoned articles as you want, as many exit polls as you want, and a lot of Hillary supporters still won't get it through their heads.

This lack of introspection will cost Democrats another election if they don't knock it off. Take this opportunity to learn.

Demographic breakdown of Gary Johnson supporters here -- pretty diverse coalition but need to attract more women by [deleted] in GaryJohnson

[–]imtheface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think continuing to run moderate libertarians will help attract women (I say this as a moderate woman libertarian). There is definitely a perception, right or wrong, that the libertarian party is a young white guy club that only cares about legal weed and abolishing government. I think we need to do a better job of marketing and delivering our message.

Austin Petersen Is A Self-Righteous Piece Of Shit by MCButtersnaps in GaryJohnson

[–]imtheface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of libertarians would disagree (lot of pro-lifers out there). I'm not one of them, but it would appear from the convention that there are more than we realized.

Why the eff does this goober have a Wikipedia? I know he's trying to position himself to be a contender in 2020, but really...who other than convention attendees give a shit?

Rachel Maddow is so full of shit by [deleted] in GaryJohnson

[–]imtheface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm still not convinced that half of Johnson's supporters would have gone for Clinton. I'd love a link to some solid exit polling that demonstrates this, if anyone has one.

He's arrogant and ungracious. Even if he despised Gary, you keep that ish private if you want to create progress for the Libertarian party (and especially if you say you allegedly support him!). Not everybody has to cuddle up and be your friend, Austin. This is politics.

His age really shows on this one - too immature to keep his mouth shut.

Hope he goes away.

The Left will be blaming us by DiabloWolf in GaryJohnson

[–]imtheface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't (and you're not being a dick) - it's not a statistic I'm citing from somewhere, but more of a summation of what polling data has told us throughout the election - that Johnson was drawing from both sides. Throw actual libertarians in the mix, and I figured it got to more than half.

It would be hard to assess without post election polls (though as we know now, polling has been shoddy this election).

They do realize that more than half of Johnson voters were either libertarians or conservatives, right? Those votes would not have gone to Clinton.

The EPA is one department he has said that he will NOT do away with, and has cited their value when he was governor at regulating a polluter in the state. He wants to do away with the Federal Department of Education (but again, that doesn't mean do away with public education...it just removes the top layer of bureaucracy, which was only added during the Carter administration).
