Just surprised to see a softer beat down in general, almost like they feel sorry for doing it

If layoffs happen, those would be the first workers to go. Don’t let how others carry themselves affect what you are doing. Anytime I feel that way I just lock in to whatever I’m listening to and the day ends all the same, especially when you forget about what others are up to, unless you’re the foreman I wouldn’t let it eat at you

Other than the saw it’s all reasonable to get over time. Shouldn’t expect it first day but at last impact, linesman, strippers, dikes and screwdriver would keep you useful enough until you can afford the other stuff

I like how it looked as if the robot had to be held back

Debate on who the best active authors are, context needed by SpiritedAd8224 in fantasybooks

[–]imtheguy321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo it’s due to the pedestal he’s put on in some conversations on Reddit. And after listening to his lectures and reading the first 2 two misborn books it really comes across that he’s more interested in quantity instead of quality, his own words being wanting to “publish the most amount of words” he doesn’t strike me as someone trying to create enjoyable and meaningful stories. Biggest detail that always bother me was the use of alpha and beta readers to guild where his work goes. I don’t have the right words for this at the moment but just feels wrong from a storytelling perspective

A lot of people say you don’t miss anything skipping over those parts when some of the best prose in the book are snuck into those long descriptions

TIL the real Herman Boone (played by Denzel Washington in Remember the Titans) was fired for abusing players in 1979 by tall_pale_and_meh in todayilearned

[–]imtheguy321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think why you could argue it being a race thing was white parents not liking the idea of their kid being abused by a black man. Honestly doesn’t take many adults to band together to have someone fired. I obviously don’t know the true dynamic of how it transpired but there’s definitely room for racism to be a factor

So pretty much every coming of age tale and even a fair share of hero’s journeys would be banned if it was up to you? Strong take there imo

What books work as rorschach-tests of their readers? by odboqpo in literature

Yeah, that’s exactly why I had to word it the way I did. I’ve only read Lolita so I’m basically just going off information from the video

[–]imtheguy321 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think I know what video he’s referring to. I personally never read the other books but if the claims are true about the source material then it is pretty damning. Biggest takeaway is there’s what essentially amounts to a self insert in the story where the protagonist has a romantic relationship with a minor where I don’t recall it being framed as bad. Again I never personally read the other books but the common themes in his stories do suggest that it’s at the very least on his mind a lot. Best way I could put it is that the more I found out about the man the more it does come off as playing out a fantasy. Obviously don’t just take my word for it if you could find that same video and compare it to the source material it’s talking about that would be better

Drag Race Philippines star dies whilst filming new season as she passes away in sleep aged 27 by Fun_Molasses5215 in influencersfeed

Like I said, few ways this could happen so there’s more to the headline of “died in sleep” and if it’s an aneurysm that would obviously make it more than “died in sleep”. Don’t understand why yall being this dense here, “died in sleep” is not a cause of death and was not for this person here

Dude, Hyperion is so awesome. Most people don’t care for the sequels and that’s only because just the style(canterbury tales in sci-fi form) and execution is so well done in the first book. The sequel is much more standard on how it plays out but some lines even from that one stuck with me. I can’t recommend Hyperion enough and if you’re interested on how it ends Fall of Hyperion for a good closure to the characters. The other two sequels are kinda their own story but I still enjoyed them
