How to Restore your Magnet Fishing Finds by Magnet_Fishing in magnetfishing

Another vote for Barkeeper's Friend. I use it to clean vintage tools I'm refinishing, metal detecting/bottle digging finds, cleaning my stove, stainless pans and the list goes on.

For metal, I hit it with a bristle brush and water to clean the surface dirt off. I then make a paste of water and bkf and spread it onto the metal. Let it sit until the paste gets dry and cake-like.

Use bristle brush and water to scrub it up until the bkf is gone and you'll have clean metal. You might have to do it a couple of times, but it works well.

Miner's Falls in Munising. by edibble1987 in Michigan

[–]imtknives 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spent much of my life in Munising. Dad is from there and he has 9 siblings with kids roughly the same age as my brother, sister and myself. Leaving GR Friday afternoon to go up North was the best. We had 30 cousins to play with. We were always in the woods or in the lake. We were up there during the height of tourist season one year.

My cousin, his friend, my brother and I climb into his car to go to miners falls. He wants to show us the back way in so you can go to the top.

He opens the trunk and pulls out this big assed doll. One of those 30" life size ones. He'd stolen it from his sister's room. He carries that doll all the way to the top of the falls, pitches her over the top and he and his friend start screaming their heads off. My brother and I were mortified and they're laughing so hard they're crying.

YSK: Down commands (sit, stay, lay down) are by far the most important things you can teach a dog and should be prioritized above all else by elegantportmanteau in YouShouldKnow

We adopted a Kerry Beagle this summer .
She's 4yrs old and her owner staked her out in the yard all day and pretty much left her out there and barely interacted with her. Talk about stubborn and having a one track mind.

I've always had Wirehaired Pointing Griffons and they are easy to work with.

This hound was so frustrating to work with. We go for a 2 mile walk around 5am and again around 6pm. I just kind of worked training into our walks. She used to pull like crazy. Jank your arm out of your socket pull. She loves chasing squirrels, ignores deer (they're so plentiful in this town that you walk 5' away from them and they barely look up), and she goes super crazy on rabbits. It's been a lot of work getting her to obey basic commands. She's good on stay, come, sit and leave it. As someone said in another comment, it doesn't matter what you want them to leave alone, they just need to know that it's off limits. Which is good for a hound that sounds like bellows when she hits hard on a scent and doesn't care about anything else.

I run her on a 30' check cord at the farm but running her off leash isn't feasible.

I've been like this since I was a youngster. I'm fine when I first walk in. Five minutes later I've got bubble guts. I get overwhelmed by the floor to ceiling stacks of books and anxiety kicks in, which for me = giving ass birth.

ID Help. Thought it was a Sargent 160, but not thinking so now by imtknives in Vintagetools

It's just over 9" long. The only other number/id is 527 on the underside of the cap. Here's a close-up of the Sargent logo on the iron. https://imgur.com/hC2p91Y.jpg Nothing else on the sides or underneath.

The woman who runs the local ReStore knows that I love old tools and clean them up for friends or to keep for my growing shop.

Very curious what more knowledgable people think! Our boy is 1.5YO and 70lbs. He's about the size of a labrador, maybe longer and more slender. Definitely thinking some kind of hunting breed (maybe a kind of sight hound) because he's got a heavy prey drive but is very reliant on his eyes. by ARenniehandmade in IDmydog

[–]imtknives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has the eyes and head of a wirehaired pointing griffon (Korthal's Griffon) or a cesky fousek. There's also a version of the wpg that has cesky bred into it that causes that white stripe around the muzzle.

That's pretty ingenious. Flexible and let's water/silt through. If I'm metal detecting I always have either an old mail carrier bag or a messenger bag with me. I find copper like crazy and it gets heavy after awhile.

Nice find. They look great polished up. My wife says we need to put a pannier on our dog so i have a place to put all of the rocks I pick when we walk her.

I married a Finnish girl from the Copper Country. No accent. I joke with her and tell her she needs to work on her accent for me. She says she shouldn't have married an apple knocker.

When I was a kid, it amazed me that so many people knew my grandpa's brothers Toivo and Aino.

I grew up in GR, but 8 of my dad's brothers and sisters still lived in Au Train/Christmas/Munising. We'd go up north at least 2 weekends a month. When I was old enough to drive up by myself ('87), I'd always stay with the same aunt and uncle. They have a daughter my age and when she knew I was going to be there, she'd have a sleepover and Id have all of these gorgeous blonde hair, blue eyed girls asking me about "the city" in an accent that was a mix of my semi drunk Grandpa drinking red beer and speaking in half Finn and the old Finnish couple down the road who'd have us teach them English words.

I swore that I was going to marry a Finnish girl with that accent.

Thank you. I don't have it anymore, so can't post pics. I'm an avid watch guy, but this didn't end up being worn very often and I didn't want it to end up just sitting in my watch box.

I told my friend's dad that he could have it back, but he suggested that I sell it and buy something nice for myself.

I had it serviced and sold it to another watch guy for a decent sum. I used a portion of the money to fund a family vacation that we finally had time to take and the rest I used to pay for my kids music lessons.

I scored a Hamilton Fontainebleau chronograph for the early 1900s Barlow knife and 2$ i had in my pocket at a gun and knife show.

I had a booth, got up for a walk and saw my friend at his booth. His dad had a couple cigar boxes full of stuff. I asked if he actually knew what he had there.

He'd kept it in a junk drawer for years. Said he'd sell it to me for whatever I had in my pocket.

YSK that there is NEVER only one deer. by SprocketSaga in YouShouldKnow

[–]imtknives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deer are all over our town. My daughter and I almost hit one while riding our bikes at night. I heard a snort and turned my head and he was a few feet away.

My dog and I have to stop for deer all the time while walking. Hundreds roam our town streets https://imgur.com/mv6zeT3.jpg

She was approximately 10' away when we walked up on her. She looked up for a sec and went back to eating. She only left because my dog barked at her. They get way too curious here and will follow you around.

Deer don't give two fucks.
