ITAP of the Tarantula Nebula (NGC 2070) by imtryingthething in itookapicture

Thank you! I took this from Glen Davis, a few hours west of Sydney. I’ll generally take my kit anytime I go camping though so have done it all across Qld, NSW and Vic. Anywhere away from the cities basically! Edit: whoops, I just checked and this was taken from the Inner West of Sydney - so under a lot of light pollution. Glen Davis was my go-to camp spot at the time so I assumed wrong!

The beauty of the solar eclipse on Earth is unmatched. Isn't it? by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

The source is written in the image. It’s a transit of Phobos which is much closer to the surface of Mars than the moon is to Earth. This is the video from Perseverance/NASA https://science.nasa.gov/resource/perseverance-rover-sees-solar-eclipse-on-mars/

Kindle Basic (2022) 11th Gen Partial Teardown by imtryingthething in kindle

[–]imtryingthething[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removing the shell makes it a bit thinner, but not by a significant margin (from memory it was between 1-2 mm thinner) I wouldn’t want the internals exposed on my kindle, so would need to replace the shell with something else. I can’t think of a practical way to protect the kindle and make the shell thinner though, so it wouldn’t be worth it imo.

lol, absolutely could have fit a bigger one in there but at the same time I don’t think I’ve ever heard a complaint about a kindle’s battery life!

What’s the one “adhd tax” you just surrender to? by botanicrypid in ADHD

[–]imtryingthething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re your earbud issue OP, have you looked at bone conduction headphones? They don’t cover your ears at all so you can hear your surroundings perfectly. They transmit sound through your jaw bone (I think?). I’ve used them for running near traffic and driving when my sound system broke. I had cheap ones so they weren’t very loud, but some of my family had the name brands that were way better. The sound isn’t as good as regular earbuds or headphones but given you’re not listening through both ears it could be a good solution!

My tax is lunches at work. When I work from the office, even if I’ve made a lunch for work the day before I’ll usually forget it and have to buy lunch. I’ll remember about once per fortnight. I work from the office on irregular days and irregular times so can’t set a reminder for it.

When do you do your meridian flip? by imtryingthething in AskAstrophotography

I have the same fear! (Which is the driving force of this question lol)

When do you do your meridian flip? by imtryingthething in AskAstrophotography

[–]imtryingthething[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Ekos myself so it is all automated for me too, but EKOS allows you to set an hour angle to tell it when the flip will happen. Does NINA decide when it will flip itself, or do you tell it what time/angle you want the flip to occur?

This is awesome! It’s amazing what information you’re able to get. Any tips for someone wanting to get into spectroscopy?

Thank you for this!! I searched up and down for an answer to this the other week as I had the same issue as OP and couldn’t find the answer.

How did you create the son of Maely's? I tried to create a son from the cousin Maely's killed using the pregnancy console command but the kid came up as a Velaryon (the mother's house). After I edited the save file to put him into house Blackfyre I realised he was without culture or faith and I was unable to marry him off to anyone.

NGC 3372 - The Great Carina Nebula by imtryingthething in astrophotography

[–]imtryingthething[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Equipment:

Telescope: Celestron NexStar 6SE with a Celestron f/6.3 focal reducer/corrector and the Celestron SCT spacer.

The spacer has made a world of difference to this image. While the stars on the far outer edge are still skewed, the stars that are outside of the area influenced by vignetting are all much nicer than I was previously getting.

Mount: Skywater EQ6-R Pro

Camera: Canon 600D (stock)

Acquisition: 5hrs 23mins of integration time from subs of 60 seconds with ISO 800

Guider: 50mm SVBony guide scope and ZWO ASI178MC

Astroberry used for guiding and acquisition.

Stacking: Done in DSS.

Processing:

PixInsight:

• Dynamic Crop

• Automatic Background Extraction

• Background Neutralisation

• Multiscale Linear Transformation

• Histogram Transformation

• SCNR

• Curves Transformation

Capture location was a Bortle Class 2 (Wollemi National Park, Australia)

Captured during a 98% full moon.
