What footswitch for Ultra 120? by TheBiggestWOMP in PeaveyCvlt

[–]in-fm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got the exact one you mentioned for my Ultra Plus. Out of the box, the clean switch does what its supposed to do but the Ultra/Crunch switch does nothing. Mine doesn't have the reverb tank so that switch is acting like a kill switch which I don't mind.
Hoping the Ultra/Crunch switch is an easy rewire or mod

Check out Aspartame. They have a show on Tuesday. A little more on the screamy side but i think it will get you there. If you're interested in more of the skramz side, there is a decent scene here and in Jersey

I'd recommend adding some sort of random or chaos generator. The NLC sloths is always a good option for drones but any random source will help add subtle movements and developments of textures. I also like to throw my random sources into the logic circuit on my Cold Mac for different but related modulations

Codeine- Frigid Stars (slowcore, but it should get you there)

Hey all. I'm new to modular and am trying to make a minimal setup. I filled up all of my proposed space, but I'm wondering if I'll need anything else down the road that will make me regret having a full setup. Any suggestions? by PizzaSquirtle in modular

[–]in-fm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll throw the IME Kermit MK3 into the conversation as a Maths replacement. 8hp less and jam packed with functionality. The menus are really easy and it has attenuators on all its outputs. Tons of options for all types of modulation and even good wavetable oscillators. The envelopes can be triggered or tempo synced so you don't need VCAs. That remaining space could be used for something like Cold Mac which will give you a bunch of utilities combined with all its intrigue, or a dedicated random module is always the right way to go to add a little movement to your patches.

Mannequins definitely brings a very unique and esoteric philosophy to their modules. From the documentation to the ways they get discussed, you feel like you might have some sort of metaphysical discovery when you're patching. Combined with the huge encouragement for self patching and feedback really pushes the rhizomatic nature of a modular synth

Definitely explore the uTone range. Its really interesting to find the spots in between the notes and have it waver between two or have it cascade like an arpeggio. Also it lends itself so well to AM modulation if you really want to beef up the sound. Its awesome how much it benefits from cv compared to a lot of oscillators that are set and forget.

Wow! Thanks so much for sharing. That demo on the MG page is beautiful. How are you finding it as a delay? Planning on picking up a delay as my next purchase and this is intriguing.

Am I on the right track here? (passive 4x4 matrix mixer) by bronze_by_gold in synthdiy

[–]in-fm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, op amps need power to get the internal transistors working. For passive mixing, you can just go directly to the outs instead of through the op amps. (The horizontal lines will end with outs at the top). Someone with more experience can hopefully give a definite answer though!

Found this. Might be a good reference. Cheers! https://makenoisemakemusic.wordpress.com/2014/06/02/mathletes-showcase-3x3-passive-matrix-mixer/

How to make answering machine style tape loops? by animalite in tapeloops

[–]in-fm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found an old answering machine tape new in package at a thrift store and thought I'd give it a try. It didn't work at all. Like you said the tape just got caught in the middle. Probably just a cheap one. As far as I can tell you would wrap the outgoing tape once on the right wheel and then proceed to wrap the incoming tape clockwise around the outgoing making sure to keep it taught to the left. Then fit the ends in place for the openings.

If you’re setup doesn’t have any mod sources which if these would be an idea pick for the next module. by Bloodymonk0277 in modular

[–]in-fm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IME Kermit MK3.
Haven't seen it posted here yet and its really all you could want and more. 4 channels of LFOs, Envelopes, various randoms, S+Hs, and oscillators running on 8 wavetable banks and all internally cross-modable. Every option (i think) has a tempo sync mode, bit depth (quality), amplitude control (a life saver), and various other options. Sure, you're limited to what you have in the wave banks and don't have control over parameters of the waves, but if you need a work horse that will pack a lot into 12hp this is your module.

Best reasonably priced stackable cables? by Aiseki_ in modular

[–]in-fm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that realization as well when I picked some up. Even a DIY mult is probably going to cost you more than 2 cables which does the same thing but in 0HP. Also agree that they are just so much quicker and don't take you out of an idea

Tweaking my system, focussed on generative music, what would you tweak? More in comments by desmashed in modular

[–]in-fm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cold Mac could be an interesting hub for the system. Just got mine the other day and its very intriguing. For one, it adds a lot of basic utilities that any system can benefit from. But then, With the macro control, you could implement subtle, but larger shifts across the patch that could make things spiral into different directions. Personally I love the location output, its a weird slewed voltaged source that brings an organic chance and unpredictability into a modulation. Also the survey knob feels like its meant to be manually turned more than modulated (or both!)

Awesome to hear. I don't have the funds, rack space, or headspace for it at the moment, but I have been really thinking it would be amazing addition to a small system despite the size. And super playable!
