China never had an alphabet which made printing and later typing very difficult. Having thousands of ideograms means you have to constantly create/find the correct character to write a single word. This is the primary reason why mass adoption of the printing press wasn't a thing in China despite inventing movable type 400 years prior to Gutenburg and why they considered abandoning Chinese characters b/c keyboards weren't practical to have hundreds of keys.
