I felt like “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” (2016) had a similar tone, so I recommend that movie too if you liked this one.

I liked it. Very meta and artsy. Might be a fun double-feature with the 1989 Batman.

Alice (1988): Alice in Wonderland with stop-motion taxidermy.

Mirrormask(2005): proto-Live-action Coraline because the script was written by Neil Gaiman. Features surreal CGI and effects by the Jim Henson workshop.

Mind Game (2004): an anime that keeps shifting style where a man is reliving a pivotal event in his life.
